Ah summertime, it is a great time to kick back, relax, maybe work a summer job, but for many students summertime is the time to visit the dentist and get your wisdom teeth removed. Sure this isn't the way many students want to spend their summer vacation but given the often week-long recovery time it is sometimes the best time to remove those teeth. Given that after the surgery you have some gaps in your mouth, there are not a lot of foods that you are able to eat in the days afterwards. However, here are nine great options that will make your recovery a little less awful.

1. Apple Sauce

Not only does Apple Sauce have a smooth texture that is easy on your teeth and gums but it also has a lot of healthy nutrients and is rich in Vitamin C and fibers!

2. Ice Cream or Popsicles

You just had four teeth removed! It's okay to spoil yourself a little bit and ice cream is just the treat! Keep in mind that it should be more soft serve without any fun bits and pieces in it, but you can still have a delicious cold treat to sooth your mouth.

3. Soup

This is a tricky one as it cannot be super hot when you eat it but soup is a hearty filling meal that you will need after a few days. Be aware to avoid soups with big chucks that may get stuck, so broths are your best bet!

4. Yogurt

Much like jello and pudding there are many different types of yogurt options that you can choose from while getting all of the rich nutrients that comes with yogurt. However, you will have to skip add-ons such as granola as that could irritate your jaws or teeth.

5. Oatmeal

This is a quick filling treat that can always be enjoyed. However, it is more sturdy to eat so maybe save the oatmeal for a few days after surgery for the best results.

6. Jello or Pudding

This is another treat that you can indulge in after your surgery! Since pudding and jello comes in so many flavors you may never get bored with your options and once you make it the shelf-life is fantastic and is more than enough to last after your surgery.

7. Pancakes

Unfortunately you are going to have to betray Leslie Knope on this one and choose pancakes over waffles but they are a great treat and breakfast food that is easy on the jaw and can go down quickly without much effort.

8. Milkshakes or Smoothies

Another treat that you can enjoy after your surgery but make sure not to use a straw as that could re-open up the wounds. Given your choice your drink can be filling and rich with nutrients or just a nice cold treat for you to enjoy.

9. Mashed Potatoes

This was one of my personal favorites. Like soup mashed potatoes are extremely filling and do not hurt you gums and mouth to chew. Like pudding, mashed potatoes can often come in different flavors or toppings that you can put on them.

Getting your wisdom teeth out is not always the best thing or the best way to spend your summer, however if you do have to get your wisdom teeth removed, then I hope some of these options help your recovery and allow you to recover fast and easy!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
