Wiki

Growing up: everyone experiences it at some point in life. Suddenly you go from carefree teenager with time and money to spare, to an adult with bills and responsibilities. The most stressful thing in your life shifts from what colleges to apply to, to figuring out what career is going to make you the happiest later on in life. There’s nothing quite like realizing that the easy days are over, and these are some of the feelings that come along with coming to terms with the fact that you’re finally an adult.

1. Watching your bank account shrink each time you pay your rent/mortgage

It feels like all those hours of slaving away for corporate America were all for naught. Oh well, at least you get to feel kind of important filling out a check each month. That kind of makes up for it.

2. The excitement of being able to buy your own groceries… That is until you get to the checkout line

It’s all fun and games until the total comes out to $150. Then to top it all off, after about a week you feel like you don’t have any food in the house again.

3. Feeling like your parents when you get your electricity bill

Going to the mirror and having a very serious talk with yourself about how you need to remember to turn the lights off every time you leave a room.

4. Realizing you’re so tired because you went to bed after 10:30 the night before

It’s like instantly growing crows feet and wanting to go get the early bird special.

5. Wanting to go out to the bars on a weeknight but knowing if you do you’ll unleash the hangover monster the next day

Say goodbye to sugary alcoholic drinks, kids, because there’s nothing worse than an adult hangover. Savour those glorious youthful days where you can get absolutely blitzed the night before and wake up perfectly fine, because they don’t last forever.

6. Getting to eat anything you want whenever

Ice cream for breakfast? Sure! Pizza and chips and soda for dinner three nights in a row? Go for it! You’re the boss, which means you can eat literally anything you want.

7. Getting to eat anything you want whenever, but also having a lot more repercussions when you do

Ice cream for breakfast? Get ready to crash halfway through the day. Pizza and chips and soda for dinner three nights in a row? Have fun bloating horribly in the morning and gaining three pounds! Sure, you can eat anything you want whenever you want, but that doesn’t mean you won’t regret some of those choices.

8. Having to pay to go to the doctor, yourself

Oh, you thought doctor visits were free? Nope! When you went because you were sick, mom or dad paid at the end of the visit. When you’re an adult you have to pay that copay on your own, which means you’ll face a lot of days when you’re sick where you have to decide whether or not it’s worth the $25-50 it’ll cost to go to the doctor.

9. Getting excited over sales like Amazon Prime Day

Ten dollars for 50 batteries? Count me in! Fifty percent off desks? I just may faint. Nothing beats a good deal, especially if it’s on things you need at home. Ka-ching!

So there you have it! If you’re an adult, I hope you got a chuckle out of these “#relatable” feelings, and if you’re not quite an adult yet, get ready because one day you’ll know just how these feel.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
