Fall is the best time of year for multiple reasons: the trees are adorned with beautiful colors, the weather is chilly enough to wear a sweatshirt, but warm enough to not have to wear a coat, and two of the best holidays take place. All together, fall is perfect. For those who want to take advantage of all this season has to offer, here is a list of the essentials:
1. Burnt orange and mustard yellow colored articles of clothing.
There is nothing more fall-festive than finding the grossest yellows and oranges you can and wearing them on your person for the world to see. For the ladies, the clothing company, Garage, sells some extremely comfortable burnt orange sweatpants that are sure to delight any fall-lover in snuggly fall-ness.
2. Fall-colored nail polish.
If you are a fan of painting your nails as well as a fan of fall, the perfect way to show the world you are ready for the chilly weather is to paint your nails with fall colors. The nail polish company, Essie, has recently released a line of nail polish that are beautiful shades of orange, yellow and red. That way, you can be festive from your fingers to your toes, literally.
3. Pumpkin-spice everything.
While it is a stereotype, pumpkin-spice might actually be the most delicious flavor known to man. I am not just talking about the pop culture phenomenon that is Starbuck's Pumpkin-Spiced Latte; you can pretty much find any sweet treat or drink adorned with the flavors of fall at this time of year. And all of them are definitely essential.
4. Every candle scent from Bath and Body Works' new fall line.
Bath and Body Works recently blessed the human race by creating all of the scents in their fall line, my personal favorite being Caramel Pumpkin Swirl. While hand soaps, sprays, and body wash, are of course, vital; candles are the perfect accessory for the fall weather. There is nothing more warming than a candle that smells like cinnamon and happiness.
5. A trip to an apple orchard.
Apple-picking is a cheap, fun way to spend any fall day. If there is an apple orchard or a farm nearby, take the opportunity to go on a hay ride, pick some apples, and maybe even pet a few goats if there is a petting zoo included on the farm. Plus, apple pie is even more delicious when it is made with apples you have picked yourself.
6. Bags and bags of candy corn.
Even though candy corn is sold year round, it tastes the best in the fall. The colors are perfect and the waxy taste is reminiscent of Halloween as a child, perfect for fall.
7. Three words: Apple. Cider. Donuts.
If you are lucky enough to live near a corner store that sells fresh apple cider donuts, you have the world at your fall-loving fingertips. Apple cider donuts are warm, fluffy and covered in cinnamon-sugar. Fall has never tasted so good.
8. The soundtrack for 'The Nightmare Before Christmas,' playing at all times.
It is still up for debate whether this movie is technically a Christmas film or a Halloween film, nevertheless, the classic music is great to blast to get into the spooky fall spirit. And, since it can be considered Christmas music, you can listen to it straight through December.
9. All of the classic Halloween films including, but not limited to, "Hocus Pocus" and "Halloweentown."
While the chilly wind is blowing outside and you are sipping on your pumpkin-spiced latte while eating an apple cider donut and smelling the Caramel Pumpkin Swirl candle you bought from Bath and Body Works, there is nothing more ideal than watching a great Halloween film. From animated to live-action and witches to skeletons, these movies are quintessential for the fall season.
