We’ve all watched since the drop of Beyoncé’s latest album last week that the Internet is filled with speculation and theories on every lyric from “Lemonade." Did Jay Z really cheat on the Queen herself? Who is this Becky woman really? Why is she homewrecking one of the highest respected couples in the music industry? Not like any of this fazes Bey, she just works harder and drops an amazing visual album unlike any we’ve seen before. It’s not new that Beyoncé has enough power behind her lyrics to start revolutions, and I wanted to take the time to point out nine empowering lyrics from this album that will remind you of the hardworking, independent, fabulous woman you are. So, in case you forgot those things, here are some lyrics to remind yourself, and to put under your Instagram posts for the next few weeks. You're welcome.
1. "Keep your money, I got my own. Get a bigger smile on my face, being alone."
The song "Don't Hurt Yourself" is filled with tons of one-lined statements, and this is one of them. Because the best revenge is your paper, right?
2. "When you hurt me, you hurt yourself. Don't hurt yourself."
This is part of the chorus from the previous song, but it just says so much. Remember that your time and dedication to a person is worth something, and to never let someone degrade that. Honestly, this whole song is motivation to go burn your ex's clothes, or to go through with that revenge plan you've had laid out for weeks. The rest of this song's lyrics are so explicit that your grandmother would definitely not approve. But I do.
3. "Stop interrupting my grinding. I ain't thinking 'bout you."
Non one should get in the way of you and your ambitions, remember that with this song, "Sorry."
4. "Middle fingers up, put them hands high. Wave it in his face, tell him, boy bye."
Also from the song "Sorry." This line is an anthem some of us should live by.
5. "She's too smart to crave material things. She pushing herself day and night."
This song is with The Weeknd, called "6 Inch," and is the ultimate independent woman anthem. It talks about being a hardworking, determined person and just how much work we put in to get to the top.
6. "'Cause when trouble comes in town, and men like you come around, oh my daddy said shoot."
OK, this is totally metaphorical throughout the whole song "Daddy Lessons," but it's to remind yourself that when you're being played to, remember your self-worth and walk away from that situation. If you're a daddy's girl, this song speaks to you on a new level, and kind of brought tears to my eye (but we're not gonna talk about that).
7. "Every diamond has imperfections, but my love's too pure to watch it chip away."
This song, "All Night," shows us why Bey believes to stick by her man's side, even if she did just go on a rampage about his alleged cheating. This is for you to remind yourself that if you love a person, then to do everything in your power to keep them by your side. Also, that what you can offer to a person is worth so much. For those who actually watched the visual album, this is the first time we see Jay Z, which I think is really powerful.
8. "I dream it, I work hard, I grind 'til I own it."
This is now my mantra. "Formation" was the first song released before her whole album, and it spread like wildfire. Of course it did, though, because this is the ultimate empowerment song. It speaks to your soul.
9. "Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper."
Just because it is. Well said, B.
