Psychologies

I don't know what it is about them but covers, man, sometimes they just get to me. Sometimes I honestly find them to be better than the original version of the songs. Covers have become increasingly popular over the years. Just look at shows such as The Voice and American Idol, they are shows practically live off people singing covers of songs. Here are some songs in which I think the cover's are actually better than the original songs.

1. John Mayer- Free Fallin' (Tom Petty)

While this song is a classic and Tom Petty's voice is pretty magical, I would have to say I prefer the version John Mayer did. Something about John Mayer.. his voice is just angelic.

2. Ed Sheeran- Skinny Love (Bon Iver)

First and for most, I have a weak spot in my heart for baby Ed so that may be why I love this version so much. Ed kills this version of Skinny Love though no one can deny that.

3. Ellie Golding- Your Song (Elton John)

While I feel like it would be a little unfair to say Ellie's version is "better" than Elton John's version since he is just such a legend, Ellie's version is pretty close to just as good in my opinion. With 60 Million views on her youtube video, Ellie sure did grab people's attention with this cover, which is no surprise to me at all. It's amazing, none the less.

4. Taylor Swift- Riptide (Vance Joy)

I'm still a huge fan of Vance Joy's version of this song, however, Taylor's version is beautiful and I quite enjoy this song played at a slower pace!

5. Sam Hunt- Strawberry Wine (Deana Carter's)

Petitioning for a full version of this one, because Sam Hunt is a beautiful human and I need more of a 1 minute of this cover to continue living. It's that good.

6. Miley Cyrus- Summertime Sadness (Lana Del Ray)

I feel like people sometimes forget just how great Miley's vocals really are. This cover showcases her talents for sure!

7. Alessia Cara- Can't Feel My Face (The Weeknd)

Not a huge fan of the original song, but this cover is definitely a new and interesting take on the song that I quite enjoy!

8. Closer- Boyce Avenue ft. Sarah Hyland (The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey)

I love the song Closer, but this cover is 10x more well done than the originally.. sorry Chainsmokers. You would never imagine closer as a slow song until you hear this cover and you start to wonder if closer should have been a slow song all along?

9. Ex's and Oh's- Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens (Elle King)

Childhood dreams of Sharpay and Gabriella doing a song together = complete. Beautiful and magical is an understatement to this cover. Love ya Elle King, but i think Ashley and Vanessa have outshines you a bit.

Happy Listening!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
