A great spring break playlist is essential for making the trip fun and, if you're anything like me, your playlist may include rap, R&B, alternative, pop and country music all jumbled up into one playlist. One minute you're listing to a hard-core rap song by Eminem and next thing you know, Blake Shelton is singing a slow country song. Country music is fitting for many (if not all) situations, and it's one genre that I always find myself obsessing over no matter what. Even better, I love when country artists cover some of my favorite pop or R&B songs- it's like music to my ears. They take a song that I already love and put their own country twist on it and it's magical. If you're looking to expand or create your Spring Break playlist, I highly recommend these seven country covers.
1. "Let Me Love You" by Chris Lane
I recently stumbled upon this song, and I am already obsessed. Chris Lane has an amazing voice, and one of his songs ("For Her") almost always brings me to tears. When I found out that he had done his own version of "Let Me Love You," which was originally by Mario, I was so excited. I have been obsessed with this song for as long as I can remember and now, I have another version of this song that I can obsess over.
2. "Love Yourself" by Thomas Rhett
Thomas Rhett...that's all I have to say. He has stolen the hearts of many with his romance and unconditional love for his wife, and if their recent baby announcement didn't pull your heart strings, than we may need to have a talk. In all seriousness, Thomas Rhett is one of a kind, and his spin on this Justin Bieber song is amazing. JB has had my heart from the beginning as well, so to see another version of his song done by a country artist that I am obsessed with as well?? There's no better combination.
3. "Want to Want Me" By Luke Bryan (duet with Jason Derulo)
Alright, this one may be semi-cheating but, Luke Bryan is still in it. Whenever he hits those high pitches, my heart stops a little bit. Luke Bryan has always sang in his deeper tone, and when I heard this for the first time, I was surprised in the best ways. He matches Jason Derulo perfectly and, all in all, this video just makes the cover of this song better because Luke Bryan gets so into it and he's genuinely having a great time.
4. "Ho Hey" by Nashville Cast (Maddie and Daphne)
First and foremost, if you are a lover of country music, you NEED to watch the show "Nashville." The story line is so intriguing and will have your emotions all over the place. But this cover makes me super jealous that I can't sing like these two girls can. Their harmonies are seamless and their voices work really well together. You'll be singing along to this song in no time, and I guarantee you will have it stuck in your head at some point.
5. "Sorry" by 80Fitz feat Dustin Lynch, Lauren Alaina, RaeLynn, Cam and more
Okay, I know I have an obsession with Justin Bieber and his music, we can all acknowledge that, but I couldn't not put this one on the list. Beat boxing and more than one country artist? Heck yeah, this song will have you dancing along to the music and will have you wishing that you could beat box like 80Fitz can. Like, where can I learn to beat box like that?
6. "Ride" by Chase Rice feat Macy Maloy
"Ride" by Somo is already the bee's knees, but put a little country twist on it, slow it down and now I am even more in love with the song. Macy Maloy adds such a sweet voice to this cover, and it honestly adds just another dynamic to the all-male song that it was originally. Overall, this slow jam will have you dancing alongside your spring break fling or your significant other this spring break.
7. "Forever Country" By Artists Of Then, Now & Forever
If you're from West Virginia University (WVU) or from the West Virginia area, then you know I have to include this cover/mashup of "Take Me Home, Country Roads." If you don't fit either of those characteristics, I still recommend you check out this song because it's just magic, and it's meaningful to the state of W.Va. After your spring break trip is over and it's time to go back to WVU to finish off the semester, let this song take you home, and crank it up a little louder to sing along.
