Oh, Boston. Well friends, welcome home!
Now that Christmas is past, and the new year is here, everyone is back in school and most of us college students are sitting around binge-watching TV until our eyes melt out of our heads. Pleasant image, right?
Well, instead of sitting on the couch eating your weight in Doritos, put on a jacket and go appreciate the city in your backyard.
1. Rose Kennedy Greenway Park
Grab a cannoli from Mike’s Pastry ($5 each) then head on over to the giant porch swings right at the official start of the North End and just “hang out."
2. The Museum of Fine Arts
With free admission after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, there’s literally no excuse not to go.
3. The Freedom Trail
There’s nothing easier than following the red line of bricks around the city and who knows, you might get a new appreciation for the historical side of the city.
4. Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall
The food
isn’t free, but there is always someone performing somewhere. It’s a tourist
zone, but it is kind of fun.
5. The Seals
Sure, the New England Aquarium is a little pricey, but the seals outside? Priceless. Also, the museum does offer a discount with a college ID for just $24.95 if you do have some spare money lying around.
6. Coolidge Corner Theater
It isn’t free, but tickets range from $9.25- $12, and if you’re going to see a movie, you might as well go to a smaller one with some chutzpah!
7. Frog Pond
In the winter, Boston Common’s Frog Pond has ice skating for $6 per skate, although skate rentals are $12 if you need. Otherwise, grabbing a hot chocolate from Dunks and watching other skaters can be just as fun.
8. The Massachusetts State House
The gold dome building offers free 30-45 minute tours about the architecture and history of the building. Call before you go in order to reserve a spot on a tour.
9. Go to Harvard
Harvard
offers free student-led tours through Harvard Yard, providing information on the
university’s history and the student experience. (It’s essentially a school tour, but c’mon. It’s as close to going to Harvard as most of us will ever get.)
