Before summer comes to a close, there is still plenty of nice weather in the forecast and plenty of beaches to visit on Long Island. While everyone’s go-to may be Jones Beach or Robert Moses State Park, there are tons of other beaches to spend the day at that won’t disappoint.
1. Long Beach
Long Beach has a 2.2 mile-long boardwalk; perfect for renting or bringing bikes, or just taking a stroll. After spending the day there, you can go to Diner By the Sea, the diner with the colorful milkshakes that populate your Instagram every summer.
2. Nickerson Beach
Other than the beautiful beach, itself, Nickerson Beach has a skate park, pools, mini golf and cabanas for beach-goers to enjoy.
3. Main Beach
Main Beach in East Hampton has perfect white sand, is the best spot to find celebrities and often makes the list of best beaches in America.
4. Coopers Beach
Coopers Beach in Southampton was actually voted as the best beach in America in 2010, according to “Dr. Beach’s.”
5. Fire Island
All beaches in Fire Island are ideal for people who like the party scene and warm water. The best part of spending the day at Fire Island may not even be the beach itself; the ferry, boardwalk and lighthouse are exciting for those who have never visited.
6. Montauk
Beaches in Mountauk, such as Hither Hills State Park, are great to spend the day at after taking the drive all the way out east.
7. Point Lookout
Town Park at Point Lookout may not have as many additional things to do as the other beaches on the list, but it’s the perfect place to just relax for the day.
8. Tobay Beach
Tobay Beach, though expensive for non-residents, offers a clean beach, a water park for kids and great food.
9. Shelter Island
Shelter Island made Travel and Leisure magazine’s list of best laid-back beach towns in the Northeast. Shelter Island, located between both forks, offers great beaches, beautiful scenery and “rustic charm”, according to the magazine.
