October is back! And with October, there is Halloween! There are all different kinds of things you can do, including carving pumpkin, going trick or treating, and best of all? Visiting haunted houses! With Halloween being my favorite holiday, I have come up with a list of different haunted houses you can visit in Alabama this Halloween season if it is your thing. If not, you are welcome to keep drinking that Pumpkin Spice Latte at your local Starbucks!

1). Arx Mortis, Killen, Alabama

A popular attraction in Lauderdale County, Arx Mortis is based on the stories of a young man from Killen named Abram Covington. He discovered a secret society known as Arx Mortis (the latin translation is "The Castle of Death!"). The society had one goal-and that was to summon the children of Perdition who will help unlock the gates to the underworld.

2). INSANITARIUM Haunted Attraction, Pinson, Alabama

It has begun its sixth season in the haunting industry, and follows the mind of Dr. Ausnemen. Legend has it that it used to be a house for the criminally insane. Tickets are only $15, so that is a deal!

3). Darkwood Farms Walking Dead Maze, Arab, Alabama

With a house AND a haunted trail, it is clear that this attraction will give you a good fright. There might be even some real scarecrows.

4). Greenville Haunted Firehouse, Greenville, Alabama

Although the name is a given, it is a charity attraction that gives back to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

5). Haunted House of Horrors, Courtland, Alabama

With scenes of torture, ax murders, death, and zombies, it might not be advisable to take children who are under the age of thirteen. It also features a Zombie Paintball Shoot, so if you have kids, they might like that better.

6). Sloss Fright Furnace, Birmingham, Alabama

One of the more popular attractions in the state, Sloss has a thirty minute tour of the furnace as well as a fifteen minute walking tour in the woods. It is said that people experience real ghosts going through the tours.

7). Warehouse 31, Pelham, Alabama

Originating in Florida and relocating to Alabama, it has three different attractions. A haunted trail called Rigamortis, The 3D Clown Nightmare, and the maze Vertigo. You are allowed to wear your costume while going through the attraction.

8). Haunted Lester Hospital, Lester, Alabama

Was the D.E. Jackson Memorial Hospital for more than fifty years, it is home to a number of reported ghost sittings. It has to be creepy to be in a hospital. Just saying.

9). Atrox Factory, Leeds, Alabama

The largest haunt in Alabama, it is an attraction consisting of more than fifty thousand square feet. Atrox features celebrities from past horror films, including Michael Myers, so you can get their autographs as you are about to pee your pants from the terrors of a haunted house.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
