This is for all the insomniacs out there.
Everyone needs a slow down every once in a while. Often times, in the busy world we live in, we get used to the rush. This isn't always a good thing and it is proven that it is harder to fall asleep when this is a constant in our lives.
Here are eight tips for sleeping better and getting tired quicker:
1. Invest in a soft blue light...
Make sure it is not too bright but not too dim either. A calming blue light sends signals to our brain and our brains act on a different frequency when we see them glow.
2. Be Zen.
There are many ways to be "zen" but sometimes we do not think about investing in these calming techniques. If you have a soft waterfall fountain, pictures of flowers near a creek or flowers near a candle, this is a good place to start. Surround yourself with spa music, plants and vines.
3. A rain shower.
I do not really think I need to elaborate on why. If this isn't a sensation that bubbles you up inside, I don't know what is.
4. READ!
5. Do not watch TV if you cannot fall asleep.
People will object to this one, in fact, I myself watch TV sometimes to get tired and it sometimes works! If your sleep anxiety is at a higher level, studies show that TVs and computers actually stop you from being tired.
6. Stretch.
Weird but true. I often will stretch myself out if I cannot sleep. I may stretch laying down but it increases oxygen levels nonetheless and smooth the flood flow.
7. Feel your eyelids.
Wait, what? Yes, sometimes the best thing to do is to stop thinking. Lay down, breathe deep, then feel how tired your eyes actually are. Feel the heaviness. If you feel your eyes weighing down, that in itself puts you to sleep because it jump starts the REM process.
