1. Your favorite foods
Whether your parents make some bomb ass meals almost every night or you are addicted to Wawa, it's difficult to adjust to life without your go-to foods. You'll become a fan of the quickest and cheapest options for meals. Oh, and eventually your body will adjust to dining hall food, but it's not a fun process. But still, nothing will ever beat your craving for your favorite mac-and-cheese.
2. Your loved ones
Friends, family, significant others and pets all help make up exactly where we feel at home. So leaving them all behind can feel nearly impossible. You'll make new friends and connections at school that will be hard to say goodbye to when it comes time for a trip home. But, you'll be happy to know that the people back home haven't changed very much while you were away.
3. Your bed
Twin XL beds that are provided by a college suck, there is no hiding that. So when you lay your head down on the plastic wrapped mattress, it's guaranteed that you will long for your bed back home. You wish you could sprawl out on your back and lay diagonally on your mattress, but you don't want to have your limbs dangling over the sides. You'll adjust eventually, but nothing feels better than going home to your bed.
4. Your shower
Water pressure and warm water are key to a great shower, but most college showers lack one and sometimes even both. The shower head sprays everywhere, except your body. The temperature is either ice cold or basically boiling, and you just get out of the shower disappointed. You can't relax in a shower like this, how are you supposed to get into your deep thoughts?
5. Cleanliness
I'm not necessarily talking about personal hygiene, although it can be counted into this too. I'm talking about how your parents always tried to make sure your room was clean, the bathroom wasn't disgusting, there is always a clean dish to eat off of and that dust bunnies weren't taking control of the dark corners. But now, you're on your own. Who wants to be the annoying neighbors who vacuum all of the time?
6. The familiarity of your hometown
You may want to be as far away as possible from your hometown, but nonetheless you still know where to find anything you need. At school you're in a new town where you aren't as familiar with the stores or restaurants, so you better step out of your comfort zone and start exploring your new town!
7. Free laundry
Doing laundry is a chore that nobody enjoys, and paying for it makes the task even more dreadful. Dorms make you pay around $3 to do one load of laundry, and even some apartment make you pay too. Enjoy the free washer and dryer while you can on breaks, wash everything you own!
