We could all use a little work. Whether we are always too stressed to stop and smell the roses or we struggle with patience, we could all do a little better. Things get crazy this time of year. We have to mentally prepare ourselves for the school year ahead. Here are just a few reminders to help you make this school year even better.

1. Go to Bed Early, Wake Up Early.

Obviously, college students are known for all-nighters, but it's a proven fact we need sleep in order to function during the day. A late night the night before an exam is one thing, but staying up all night watching Netflix is just not a good idea. Trust me.

2. Eat Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. But Definitely Breakfast.

Grab a granola bar on your way out or wake up in time to eat some cereal. Either way, they actually were serious when they said it was the most important meal of the day. You will be more alert and won't be starving at lunch time. You will also sleep better at night if you a nice dinner.

3. Meet New People.

We all have our "people." We tend to stick with the same group because it's just easier. It's great to have a group of people who you can always rely on, but meeting new people will broaden your social skills. The more friends in your circle, the better. You can never have too many friends!

4. Pray.

Make it a nightly routine. Make a list and talk to God. You will be amazed at how much better you feel. I always feel at peace when I can share my burdens with Him. Just hand them over and let them go. Don't allow your brain to become cluttered with the worries of this world. Let Him help you.

5. Buy a Planner -- and Use it.

This is a hard one for me because sometimes I just don't have time to write my assignments down. Try to make this a routine, too. Every night, before bed, grab your planner and write down the plans floating around in your brain. I have a hard time sleeping sometimes because I can't stop thinking about what I have to do the next day. Write it down and go to bed. You'll sleep better and will be better prepared for the day ahead.

6. Take a Lot of Pictures.

School is a very important time in your life. Go out with your friends and take pictures. Post several pictures on social media. Print them, save them, keep them forever.

7. Don't Let Anger Get the Best of You.

If a professor gives you an undeserved bad grade, or your lab partner doesn't show up for the presentation, don't let the anger eat you alive. Take a deep breath, count to ten, and move on. Anger isn't going to help anything. Don't let it take over.

8. Smile More.

Smile at the person walking by, and hold the door for them. Show what kind of person you are by your actions. Say "excuse me," even if it isn't your fault. Kindness is contagious -- pass it around.

Work to make this year different. Allow yourself to make better decisions and break through comfort zones. Change this year in a positive way. The best of luck to all of you. God Bless.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
