8 Ways To Keep Long-Distance Friendships

It is hard to stay close to a friend who lives far away. Not being able to see them all the time can be heart-breaking. If the person means a great deal to you, there are ways to maintain that friendship even at a distance. Here are just a few ways of keeping a long distance relationship with a friend.

1. Phone Calls

Grab your cell phone and have a nice chat with your friend. Spend the night talking about your day or have a quick conversation to check in. You can decide to call each other and not even talk. Having them on the phone while you're doing work at home or cooking dinner is comforting. It can feel like they are right there in the room with you.

2. Text Messaging

Sometimes it is hard to find the time to call a friend. If you are missing someone shoot them a text once in a while. Keeping a constant back and forth message going is a nice way to keep your friend close.

3. Video Chatting

Skype or Facetime are two ways of connecting with a long distance friend. Video chatting is a great way to not just speak to your friend, but actually see their bright beautiful face! Skype and Facetime are perfect ways to contact your far away friend via the Internet.

4. Facebook Posts or Messages

When you come across a funny video that you think your friend would enjoy post it on their wall! If you find something online that reminds you of them post it! If you just miss them post a message!

5. Make Monthly Lunch Dates

Schedule a nice time to meet up and get some food. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner are great ways to catch up with a friend and get to enjoy a nice meal together. Monthly lunches are always a nice thing to look forward to.

6. Send Them Birthday Cards

Send out those birthday cards! Let them know you are still thinking about your friend and wishing them the best! Even though you are far away you still remember the important events in each other’s lives.

7. Make Holiday Visits

Spend a day during the holiday break visiting your friend. It would be nice to go out and see a good friend who is living far away! Plan to take a trip shopping, going to the beach or going to visit the city together. It is a great way to relax and have a fun time with a good friend.

8. Checking in Whenever You Can

Reach out as much as possible! Whether it is through any of the above methods. Let them know you still want them in your live and vise versa. Tell them what is going on in your life and ask about what is going on with them! Make sure to show your friend how much you care.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
