Among trying to complete multiple assignments at a time, maintaining a social life and working a job to pay for school, some days can be incredibly stressful for some college kids. At times, the stress can get to you. In those times, getting away from it all is necessary. So, here are a few ways to get away from the stress of college.
1. Go for a walk.
Once in a while, time to yourself is one of the best things to help stress. Grab your headphones, play your favorite music, and explore the area around your school or home. Finding new places on walks and getting out into the fresh air are always good ways to forget about your responsibilities for a little while.
2. Go for a drive.
If walking isn't really your thing, then hopping in your car is a good alternative. The best drives are the ones with no destination. Just drive through your city, taking random turns, and see where it takes you. Focusing on your driving and where you're going will help you get away.
3. Eat your favorite food.
If there's anything that makes me happy, it's eating a bowl full of my favorite mac and cheese. Head to the store to get a yummy snack, eat it and be happy. The time you take getting the food and eating it will be enough to distract you from anything on your mind. It's that simple.
4. Exercise.
Whether it be running, lifting weights or doing yoga, exercise is a fantastic way to relieve stress. In fact, exercise has been proven to reduce stress levels. So, it's like a two in one deal. Reduce stress, and get away from your responsibilities, all at the same time.
5. Do something about which you're passionate.
We all have hobbies and other activities we like to do. Go out and do whatever it is you're passionate about. For me, it's going out and playing golf for a few hours. If you don't have one, try something new: Play a sport, volunteer, knit, paint or garden.
6. Don't drink to forget.
When stress hits hard, some people turn to alcohol. This, however, is the worst thing to do for stress. If you drink every time you're stressed out, you will probably be drinking A LOT, therefore creating a alcohol dependency, which is also known as alcoholism, which is not good.
7. Watch your favorite shows and movies.
Sitting back and watching the shows and movies you love is a great way to unwind and de-stress after a long day. There are some shows for me, like "The Office," which will never get old and are great for the end of a long day to decompress.
8. Sleep.
If you really want to get away for a while, maybe around eight hours, sleep is the way to go. There's no better way to get away than to sleep off the stress.
