Summer is finally here, and with that comes almost three months of endless fun activities. If you're anything like me, you like to save money but still have a summer filled with fun. Here is a list of a few ways to have a summer filled with fun, while not breaking the bank!

1. Get a summer job

It is so important to learn to value hard work. Whether it be waitressing, babysitting, or interning at a company or business, I highly recommend getting a summer job. Having a job gives you the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a business, make some extra spending money, and maybe even meet some new work friends. It also takes up some of that time you would spend binge watching your favorite Netflix shows.

2. Binge watch your favorite movies on Netflix

Binge watching is the perfect way to spend a nasty, rainy summer day.Curl up in bed with a bowl of popcorn and sweat pants on, and spend the day watching your favorite chick flick (My favorite is How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days).

3.Clean out your closet

I love cleaning and organizing, and one way to fill up a summer day is going through old clothes. Clean out your closet and find some articles of clothing that you don't wear anymore and either donate them or bring them to a consignment shop. Who knows, you may end up making a few extra bucks!

4. Pack a picnic lunch and bring it to the beach

Forget spending money on eating out; pack a picnic lunch and bring it to the beach! This makes for a fun time spent with friends, or a unique version of a summer date!

5. Go the pool

Who doesn't love spending the day sunbathing by the pool? Grab your favorite bathing suit and some sunscreen and spend the day soaking up the sun.

6. Go on a walk or bike ride

Whenever I come home, I love taking my two dogs for walks in the morning. It is a great way to start the morning and even get a little exercise in.

7. Grill out

Instead of eating out, make it a point to cook or grill out. I am no cook, but if you can find someone who knows how to grill, I recommend making friends with them. Grill some hot dogs and hamburgers and turn the night into a low key night spend grilling and hanging out with friends.

8. Read a book

I love reading, especially over the summer when I am not buried beneath a mountain of homework assignments. Find yourself a great read over the summer and sit outside and dive in for thirty minutes. I recently started reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis, and it is one of my favorites!

Summer is a time of relaxation, and making memories, and I hope you now have some activiies that will fill your long, sun filled days!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
