You’ve just finished your second or third week of school, and you’re already wondering “how am I supposed to get all this done?” The work has piled up, your first projects, papers and tests are all due on the same day next week. Now you’re stressed out (cue twenty-øne piløts). Looking for a stress reliever? Here are eight ways to combat stress:
1. 30-Second Dance Party!
When you’re falling asleep from your reading assignment, get your blood pumping and wake yourself up!
2. Music
If you’re in a place where you can’t breakout in dance suddenly (i.e. the library), put your headphones in and listen to something that will first relax you and then motivate you to keep going.
3. Exercise
You either love this one or you hate it. Some people love any excuse to be up and moving, others would rather live with the stress. But in all honesty, research has shown that exercise has health benefits that extend past the physical body.
4. Take up a Hobby
Hobbies temporarily get your mind off everything you should be doing. Even if it’s only a few minutes of peace, you’ll be glad you gave your mind a break.
5. Vent to a Friend
This one always helps me because if I can get everything out of my system, the stress leaves with it. Friends always help me see things in a different light, and more importantly, they make me laugh. Speaking of…
6. Laugh
I’m always a supporter of laughter being the best medicine (behind prayer that is). According to Time Magazine, “laughter appears to cause all the reciprocal, or opposite, effects of stress.”
7. Chunking
This is something my 12th grade Spanish teacher loved to emphasize when studying for tests. What it means is to break up your big, daunting tasks into smaller, manageable tasks. Checking things off a to-do list feel soooo good.
8. Nap
Naps, like exercise and laughter, also have multiple health benefits, but if nothing else, it at least helps you feel more awake and ready to take on another challenge.
Now go, and enjoy stressless productivity!
