Good morning, Upper East Siders and Tree Hill Ravens. RS here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of GG and OTH's elite...
Now if you're a teenage girl with a Netflix account and a pulse, chances are you have watched the legendary episodes of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill and have idolized them ever since. I mean, how could you not? Whether it's the Upper East Side or Tree Hill, North Carolina, we have practically grown up in these areas, and know these characters (and all their secrets) like the back of our hands. Even though they each tell different stories, have you ever thought about how these shows are similar? Maybe there's a reason why we love both of them an unhealthy amount. Here are my theories on why these shows go hand in hand:
1. They live in a vicious cycle of dating basically everyone in their friend group. Serena and Nate? Check. Nate and Blair? Check. Blair and Chuck? Check. Dan and Serena? Check. Switch, repeat, switch!!! Haley and Nathan? Check. Nathan and Brooke? Check. Brooke and Lucas? Check. Lucas and Peyton? Check. Peyton and Nathan? Check. You get the point.
2. Speaking of dating... the guys are madly in love with the girls, setting impossibly high standards for those of us in the real world. While Chuck and Nathan may be douchebags sometimes, there's no denying that they can't live in a world without the girls of their dreams: Blair and Haley. If anyone finds out where I can find guys who talk like this, LET ME KNOW.
4. Each show has a set of "bros for life." While Lucas and Nathan may be forced to be half-brothers, Chuck and Nate might as well be brothers too, considering they have been BFF's since day one of Gossip Girl airing. Plus, it makes sense, those rich kids gotta stick together. Now even though Lucas and Nathan had a rough start accepting each other into the family, they eventually become true brothers and teammates, who will always have each other's backs. Literally nothing cuter than these two bromances.
5. The girls are fashionista queens. Brooke Davis slays the game with her "Clothes Over Bros" clothing line, and then there's Blair Waldorf, who plays the daughter of a successful fashion designer and has an impeccable fashion sense. Both of these ladies, and their wardrobes, absolutely scream feminism. They act and look strong and confident, so that it's no wonder we call them "Queen B."
6. A character who plays the "outsider." Whether it's Lucas, who moves to Tree Hill, or Dan Humphrey, otherwise known as "Lonely Boy," these characters stick out a bit from the usual posse members. Both characters play aspiring writers and are overall pretty low-key people. They are the underdog kids of the show, who cross over to the pretty and popular side. Not gonna lie, I'm still salty that Lucas got cut from the show, aka every girl's heart throb since his starring in A Cinderella Story.
7. They have a symbolic meeting spot. Every true fan is well aware of Tree Hill's River Court, where Nathan and Lucas have their first basketball duel, or the Met Steps aka the throne of Gossip Girl, where S & B gather with their minions for lunch, or sit and ponder how they're going to conquer the world. This is the show's appointed "hang-out spot" and gives us a real glimpse of their hometown.
8. They are the five best friends that anyone could ever have. Despite all the drama and backstabbing that inevitably goes on in every episode, the one thing they can each fall back on is their tight-knit crew. No matter what they go through, they go through it all together like a true family. They are the friend groups that you aspire to be. Literal definition of squad goals.
You know you love them. XOXO, RS
