I have two college aged sisters: one two years older than me, and one a year younger than me.
My school got out a week before theirs, and I'm already home for the holidays. But, let me tell you, this has been the loneliest 5 days ever. However, it's a nice reminder of why I love having all sisters.
These are my reasons why having all sisters is the best:
1. Pictures
I know this is a shallow one, but it's the first thing the outside world notices anyway. A picture with one college aged girl is cute, but a picture of 3 college aged girls who all look the same always catches some eyes. I cannot lie, my pictures get double the likes when all of us girls are in them.
2. School
Okay, so this one I didn't always like because growing up teachers often called us the wrong name or compared us to each other. But actually, going to school together came in handy. My big sister dated a football player who made it very clear to my first boyfriend that he needed to watch his back and respect me. I got to help my baby sister get ready for homecoming and prom. And every year we passed down our notes from a class that one of us sister would inevitably need the next year.
3. Guidelines
We're all young girls trying to figure out what it means to enter adulthood and it can be scary sometimes. But, when you can watch what your sisters do, and sit down together and talk about experiences we've had and giving each other advice, it feels really nice. It's different than your girlfriends because, well you grew up together and really understand what each other need.
4. Clothes
I know, this is the one that everyone says. But, it's true. Especially now that we're done growing, we're all essentially the same size. Don't have time to get an outfit for a party? Take your sister's clothes. And, not in a steal them way. We actually never really did that. Oh! And when shopping for each other we never have to guess if it's the right size. Just hold it up to yourself and assume it'll be a little shorter on one, and a little tighter on the other, but still the right size.
5. Our Group-chat
People make fun of us for this one, but yes we have a sister group-chat and we talk in it every single day. We have a group Snapchat too, just so everyone knows. What do we talk about, you say? Well, how our day went, and what grades we got, and what someone said to us, and what our dad posted on Facebook, and memes (of course). And we send pictures of our coffee, and our rooms, and our lunch, and our outfits, and the sky and what movie we're watching. It's all very important stuff, trust me.
6. Activities
Sisters will do all the things you like to do. We can go shopping for hours together, go on walks by the waterfront, get coffee and pastries, do art together, watch chick flicks, do makeup, and bake tasty snacks. These are activities that other people have to coordinate with friends, but no, you just wake up and ask your sisters if they want to.
7. Relationships
Everyone knows the relationship between your brother and your boyfriend: he threatens him and they engage in strange displays of masculinity. But, having all sisters is a completely different story when it comes to boyfriends. You spend all the time that your sister isn't in a relationship trying to figure out who she likes, and once you do know you grill her on what this means and where this is going. You want to like him, but not too much. Just enough that occasionally you think he's nice and funny- and you can see why your sister likes him.
8. And Emotions
You haven't felt pain until you've seen your sister cry because someone hurt her. And you've never felt anger until you find out who hurt her. But, on the receiving side, having your sister come in your room and tell you it's going to be okay is one of the most genuine phrases you'll ever hear. No one loves you quite like your sister.
My sisters will be home in two days. And the house will once again be full of chatter and music and memories in the making. Having all sisters is definitely something that gets better with age, I have no idea what I'd do without mine.
