You know about the Air and Space Museum and you’ve already heard of the Washington Monument. But you probably haven’t heard about these hole in the wall places in D.C
1. Politics and Prose
If you’re a fan of local bookstores with small coffee shops with novelty gifts then this is a stop you have to make. There are a few coffee shops by this name in Washington and they’re all worth a visit.
2. Library of Congress
Yes, they actually have books and no, not just boring boring ones either, it is the worlds biggest public library. You do need an membership to enter, like any other public library. Don't worry though, even without a membership there's still plenty to do. You could check out some of the most influencial books in America's history, which includes everything from Cat in the Hat to Of Mice and Men.
3. Rocky Horror Picture Show
Dinner… and show. Well go to East Street Theater and you can check at least one of those off the list. Seriously though, if you ever want to see a live Rocky Horror production while watching the original Jim Curry look no further than East Street Theater. It's DC's one and only Rocky Horror Picture Show showcast preformed by the Sonic Transducers.
4. National Arboretum
Wonder around this beautiful garden that grows among Corinthian pillars that were once part of the Capitol building. They also have the The State Tree Grove where they have each states official tree.
5. National Museum of Health and Medicine
This one is not for the faint of heart but if you think looking at a hairball in the shape of a stomach that a twelve year old girl once swallowed then this is for you. They also have the bullet that killed Abraham Lincoln, encased with pieces of his skull. Not to mention the collection of brains and examples of deformities.
6. Washington National Cathedral
Even if you’re not religious this is still a place worth visiting. They have rocks from the moon in stained glass windows and Darth Vader shaped gargoyles. Seriously there’s something here for everyone. While you’re there check out Helen Keller’s ashes and Woodrow Wilson’s tomb.
7. National Gallery of Art
Yes, this article is about hole in the wall places and no I did not run out of places. From May to September every Friday starting at 3p.m. the National Gallery of Art let's people sit out on the 6-acre lawn out front. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and enjoy dinner under the stars and moonlight, music is provided.
8. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
This isn't like other memorials you find Washington DC. It's sprawled a on the banks of the Tidal Basin and has everything from statues of FDR in his wheel chair to waterfalls to quotes from Steenbeck's Grapes of Wrath.
