8 Traditional Winter Must Do's

Winter can get pretty dull but don't let that stop you from going out or staying in and having fun! These winter activities and a must since winter only comes around once a year! Here are my favorite eight things to do when the snow comes!

1. Build a snowman

Grab a couple friends or your significant other and get out there! Take a carrot, some buttons, and an old scarf! This is a must do, small or large.

2. Ice skate

Of course this is so cliche, but at the same time extremely fun! I mean who doesn't love struggling on ice skates with your friends taking videos of you!

3. Make a gingerbread house

What a better way to spend a snow day making a gingerbread house!

4. Donate toys & books

I'm sure many of us are older and grown out of our dolls and hot wheels, that could be donated at churches for children's Christmas gifts! There is no better feeling than sharing Christmas Cheer!

5. Attend a hockey game

This should've been listened as number one but seriously get your bottles our of your house and go to that Red Wings game!

6. Take a Christmas light tour

Personally my favorite has to be the Detroit Zoo Lights! Find out if you have a local Christmas light tour around your hometown!

7. Watch "It's a Wonderful Life"

This is a classic and a must... every year my mom and I snuggle up watching this very long (sometimes painful) Christmas classic! If you haven't watched it, I definitely recommend it.

8. Make hot cocoa and cookies

Mmm... just the sound of homemade hot chocolate makes me giddy for Christmas break!

Enjoy these winter activities, try your own, and get out of your comfort zone this winter! Don't hibernate!

Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
