8 Tiny Must-Try Eateries Along The North Shore

The North Shore in Massachusetts spans the coast of MA and is home to hundreds of people who are lucky to call it home. I am merely a visitor to this area, as an out-of-state college student, but with the help of my trusty Subaru, I too have gotten to experience some of the gems of this area. Not only are the beaches great and the towns adorable, the food alone is really good. Everyone's got to eat, we might as well enjoy it, right?

1. Haley’s Wines and Market Café Marblehead

The café sells both delicious breakfast and lunch foods. Plus you can buy unique wines there, so really, what’s not to love?

2. Willow Rest, Gloucester

The breakfast and lunch selection is amazing—may I suggest the Bridge sandwich, basically a revamped BLT. This shop also serves partly as a convenience store with its selection of drinks and souvenirs.

3. Boston Bagel Company, Beverly

One of my favorite cures for a dreary weekend morning (i.e. a hangover)—the asiago bagels are a blessing to this world, trust me.

4. Toscana Bar Italiano, Beverly

After studying abroad in Florence, I craved good, authentic Italian food and this place met high expectations. The cozy atmosphere is perfect for a romantic date or even dinner with friends.

5. The Ugly Mug Diner, Salem

By now it’s so much of a surprise that I love a good brunch spot. This Salem diner provides a great variety of foods and drinks as well.

6. Sugarcane, Peabody

This Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant will totally satisfy your craving for quality Asian food.

7. Blue Marlin Grille, Essex

The perfect spot for fresh seafood, plus a large assortment of other offerings. In the warmer months, guests can eat outdoors as well.

8. Bianchi’s Pizza, Revere

Obviously I had to include a pizza place. Bianchi’s is one of the greatest places to go when you want a no-frills dining experience based solely on what the people want: pizza!

Now, of course there are many other deserving restaurants and I had a very hard time trying to pick just a few to showcase, so really--these just happen to be my top favorites.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
