8 Thoughts I Had While Watching "Lemonade"

When life gave her lemons...

8 Thoughts I Had While Watching "Lemonade"

She did it again. Beyonce Knowles created a masterpiece, and I mean that in every sense of the word. She is an artist. I prepared myself all week for the release of "Lemonade;" I danced every morning to “Partition” and picked lemonade as my drink of choice almost every day this week in the dining hall. I thought I was ready for "Lemonade," but boy, was I wrong.

In her flawless Beyonce fashion, Queen B herself was unapologetically transparent. Through poetry, dancing, singing, and acting, "Lemonade" is both brilliant and the truest form of art.

So here are eight thoughts I had while watching "Lemonade:"

1. I'll just pay for Tidal and delete it later.

Hate to break it to ya, Tidal, but yes I am definitely one of those people who subscribed to your services, watched the beauty of B unfold, and then proceeded to quickly cancel my subscription. I’m a broke college kid. Can you blame me?

2. Did she just say what I think she did?

This one crossed my mind more than once. As B unleashed her anger on hubby Jay-Z, she had what seemed like a billion one liners that left me with my jaw on the floor. I found myself screaming “Whaaaat” and looking at my roommate in disbelief of what had just come out of Beyonce’s mouth. But needless to say, yes, she just said what I think she did.

3. This is art!

Make no mistake: "Lemonade" is without a doubt, a piece of art. The time and effort put into this video or album or whatever you want to call it shows in the minute details that make this performative art so damn powerful. From her outfits and hair to the cinematography and sociopolitical messages, every second of this reminds me that they don’t call her Queen B for nothin’!

4. I wonder how Jay-Z feels right now.

As I’m watching this, I can’t help but wonder if this is Jay-Z’s first time watching this. How does he feel about being publicly shamed for his wrongdoings? Well, to be honest, who the hell cares? I stand in solidarity with my girl B and all the window smashing and husband bashing she wants to do!

5. Who the hell is Becky?

First of all, how dare you? But really though, you messed with the wrong woman, Becky. That’s all.

6. They are definitely over.

My heart broke into a million pieces as I watched. How could the epitome of couple goals be taking such a huge loss? Needless to say, I was convinced that this public display of a broken marriage must have meant that B and J are done for good.

7. Well, maybe it's not over.

Each song falls under a theme. As "forgiveness" flashed across the screen, I knew something was coming, but when images of Jay-Z and Beyonce together, along with the lyrics “If we’re gonna heal let it be glorious” playing in the background, I second-guessed everything from before. They survived this.

8. What's next?

Wow. It’s hard to put words to this incredible work of vulnerability. But how can this be topped? She has many years of her career ahead of her and this is the pinnacle thus far. What’s next for Queen B and how will she continue to reign over all?

Well that’s a wrap, a short and sweet look into my stream of consciousness as I watched "Lemonade unfold." All I need now is for someone to buy me tickets to her concert! (No, I’m not joking.)

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
