You learn a lot from art history classes. You learn about history, painterly details, and become exposed to culture. Some of the things you learn are obvious and can be found on the syllabus. Other lessons are learned through experiencing all that the class has to offer.
1. Anything can be art!
Yes. Even a urinal. After taking an art history class, everything you look at could be a possible work of art. You think to yourself: Huh! Couldn't I do that?
2. Nope. It's actually harder than it looks.
Just because it looks like scribbles, doesn't mean it is. Now, whenever a friend says "I could do that.", you raise an eyebrow because you know what Pollock had to go through.
2. You are very well acquainted with Jesus
Now I'm not Christian (or any other Abrahamic religion for that matter), but after taking art history, I am well acquainted with saints, Madonnas, and Christs. You know the difference between a foreshortened Christ and a Christ child.
4. You are also more comfortable with the human body
Now you can say that you've seen it all.
5. You probably have a girl crush on a Renaissance painting
I mean, you can't argue that the feminine beauty in art is amazing. You like this Venus. You know you do. Don't deny that you want to be in her squad.
6. You also most likely have a major bro crush
Leonardo was a genius! There is a chance that you covered a lot on him so it is inevitable that you would have wanted to hang out with him.
7. You have a whole new appreciation for girl power
Niki de Saint Phalle really knew how to take down the patriarchy. You half wish that you could join her and create one of those shot paintings. But campus rules would not allow that...
8. You have a whole new appreciation for creativity
You may have taken the class interested in art or you may have not, but either way, you come out with a new appreciation for art. You may even be inspired to create some art yourself.
