8 Things We Hate But Actually Love

I complain. You complain. We all complain. We love to complain. We love things. We hate things. We have an opinion about every single thing in our lives. We love this restaurant. We hate that coffee. We love this preacher. We hate that weather.

Most things are allowed to be loved and hated; hate what you want. But there are some things that just aren't allowed to be hated.

1. Airport security

I love traveling, but despise having to go through airport security. They are usually rude and scary, plus they can touch you when and wherever they want. Because it's for our safety. Despite all of the negative things that come with airport security, you and I may not be alive today without them.

2. Doctors

Continuing with the theme of life and death, we are also alive today because of these professionals. I hate needles, I hate doctor's offices, I hate the smell; but I love being alive and love not being sick. These guys are some of the real MVPs and can be rare in places around the world. Treasure these MVPs.

3. Textbooks

We complain about how expensive textbooks can be when there are people around the world desperate to have them. Textbooks are accessible everywhere and are definitely not affordable everywhere. We complain about long chapters and excessive reading, when actually we are privileged to even be in college. It's from those textbooks are teachers gain knowledge so they can impart knowledge on us.

4. Speed limits

We would love to drive down the road not having to worry about if we're going too fast. Our eyes are always open for the next cop behind or in front of us. However, we all know speed limits save lives. We all know breaking speed limits have destroyed lives. Some countries don't have speed limits. I'm glad America has speed limits.

5. Police officers

Cops are scary. They give tickets and can be intimidating. But they serve and protect. I'll take a ticket if it means I'm being served and protected every other day of the year.

6. Seatbelt

It's just annoying. It's one more thing we have to do when getting in a car. On roadtrips, it gets in the way and makes it hard to be comfortable. But it may just stop you from flying through a windshield.

7. Braces

Braces hurt and don't look the greatest. But man, my smile rocks now. So, thank you braces.

8. Brushing teeth

When you're tired, brushing your teeth is the last thing you want to do. Your bed is a few feet away, but your teeth are dirty. You're also saving money in the long run (assuming your teeth brushing prevents cavities). Without brushing your teeth, you may not have any right now.

The list could go on and on. Americans, especially, are quick to complain about things that have no right to be bashed. Many of these things are a luxury around the world and we have them at our fingertips. Instead, we should be thankful.

Next time you're about to complain, remember the good that the culprit provides.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
