Remember last year at this time? Maybe nerves were setting in as you finished your packing list, or you were excited to finally “be on your own.” Now, looking at the upcoming year of college, it shouldn’t be so overwhelming.

Whether freshman year was everything you dreamed and more, or it left you exhausted and ready for summer, sophomore year is upon us! It’s exciting!

There were amazing things about your freshman year I’m sure, but here are a few things that should make you a little more excited for the fast approaching move-in day.

1. You know what to expect

You know the campus, the people, the classes. Of course life will throw curve-balls, but you have the general idea of how this college thing works. Eat, study, sleep, repeat. (Eating is top priority of course.)

2. You get to see your friends again

It’s been a different summer because instead of your friends being just down the street, they’re in another state. Catching up with your high school friends was amazing, but it’s time to be back with your college group. College friends are amazing, so they just need to stay closer over the summers!

3. You’ll be taking more classes geared towards your major

Good news, those awful English 101 and Environmental Sciences classes are over. No more late night studying for those gen ed courses. Now you’ll be up later studying for harder classes that have more to do with your major.

4. You have your dorm essentials

Cute curtains? Check. Coffee Maker? Check. Extension cords? Got 5.

This year, instead of spending all that summer job savings on dorm room decorations, why not make a payment for your college bill? Or put all the extra money in your coffee fund. That’s always a good idea.

5. You can be a mentor

Look out for that new freshman who is seeking someone older to show them around or explain a professor’s unspoken criteria. As a sophomore, you have a solid year’s experience of how to handle college. For many freshmen coming in, you’ll see their confused faces as they try to figure out how to choose what to eat from the buffet lines and their typical mistakes in procrastination.

6. You have successfully avoided (or unfortunately gained) the "Freshman 15"

Need I say more?

7. You got to choose your roommate

Now you know who that person is that you’re going to share a space with for the next 9 months of your life. Your freshman roommates were great, but now you’ve matched yourself successfully (hopefully). And if we’re honest here, your roommate can make or break your time in college, so here’s to hoping this roommate decision was a good one.

8. You’re one step closer to being done

Whether this is a sad reality or you already cannot wait to get that college diploma, the beginning of sophomore year symbolizes being closer to getting into the real world and getting a job in your desired field.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:
