Need a little convincing as to why Iowa State is the best college in Iowa? I can explain why in less than 600 words.

1. We have CRAZY traditions

From VEISHA, to 8:01, to Lancelot and Elaine, to campaniling. All these things are unique to Iowa State. VEISHA is banned from campus today, but back in the day it was an annual week-long "celebration" during the spring of each year. It was intended to be just a parade, but, it turned out to be a week long week of destruction of property and partying (reason it is banned now). 8:01 however is not, it's held on 8:01 Saturday morning the first week of school (when the drinking ban is lifted from the Greek community.) It's basically a huge day party and a night full of fun! Lancelot and Elaine are two swans that have lived in Lake LaVerne for many years. It's said that if you walk around this lake three times with your lover you're destined to be together!

2. Our tailgates are the BEST

If you are a freshmen and you tailgate during the games you're most likely to find yourself in the Haunted Forest. It's on the south side of the stadium, and it's the ideal place to get your Saturday morning festivities on!

3. Superdog, Insomnia, and Jeff's are DANK

Find yourself looking for a late night snack in the Welch Ave. area? Superdog is a stand across from Kum & Go and known as an ISU favorite! Insomnia Cookies is right down the road and is open until the early hours and even delivers. My personal favorite, Jeff's Pizza, also open late and great for the late night munchies coming back from Welch! (all three are also very cheap for our broke ass college budgets)

4. You can feel the Hilton MAGIC

The Hilton Coliseum is home to our Iowa State Basketball and Volleyball teams. It's magic was known for producing unexpected victories and created such a strong fan base. It's such an energetic environment and also home to the Clone Cone (best and biggest ice cream you'll ever have.) I guarantee you won't regret buying tickets to see either sport!

5. Late Night Meal Bundles are LIFESAVERS

Coming home from the library late at night? Eat 8 meals a day? Or just a late night eater? You can get late night meal bundle numerous places on campus. Convos dining under Oak - Elm comes in clutch for me almost daily (because I eat eight meals a day.)

6. The Parking Police have no MERCY

Stay away from the yellow tickets!! First semester freshmen year I racked up around nine parking tickets. Fun Fact: if you don't pay them they get charged to your U-Bill. So, I would strongly advise not to park anywhere on campus from 7a.m.- 5:30p.m. every week day. Convenient right?

7. We have the PRETTIEST campus

This year Iowa State was ranked in the Top 5 for the nationals most beautiful campus. Awesome right? From the beautifully built buildings, to the landscaping. Our campus is amazing no matter what season, pictures do no justice!

8. We are ranked #1 in Biological/Agricultural Studies

Being ranked #1 in one of our biggest colleges is such a huge accomplishment. And being part of it is even more amazing! So many great opportunities to better yourself and to create a future for yourself!

I no doubt chose the best school to attend. Not a day goes by that I don't regret attending, and I hope you get to experience Iowa State University in any sort of way! (praying for all the U of I fans out there)

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
