8 Things To Know About TRAPPIST-1
NASA

On Wednesday February 22, 2017, NASA announced that some they had discovered Sven new Earth- like planets orbiting around a single star in a solar system not so far away. Here's what you should know about it.

1) It's called TRAPPIST-1 after the the Transiting Planets and Small Telescope (TRAPPIST) located in Chile that spotted two of the planets in 2016.

2.) It's an exoplanet system which simply means it's located outside of our solar system

3.) It's 40 light years away, or 235 trillion miles, which is relatively close in space time. Or if you own a Millennium Falcon it should take you no time at all to get there.

4.) All seven planets are likely to have rocky terrain, like Earth.

5.) The star the planets are orbiting is an ultra cool dwarf, which means it's cold enough that liquid water could survive on the orbiting planets. Although the phrase 'ultra cool dwarf' makes me picture Gimli from Lord of the Rings wearing dope sunglasses and a tuxedo.

6.) All seven planets are really close together, if you were to stand on on one of them you would probably be able to see a few of the neighboring planets whizzing by.

7.) The planets may be tidally locked meaning one side of the planet is always facing the star it's orbiting, so one side of the planet is always day and the other is always night.

8.) Three of the planets are in the habitable zone, which means they are in an area of space where conditions are best for life to exist. Maybe that's where E.T. lives.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.
