8 Things To Do Instead Of Going To Cancun For Spring Break

AKA, things I've convinced myself that are fun

It's finally here, the day you've been waiting for since the start of the second semester. Midterms are done and spring break has begun. For many college students, spring break means getting packed and heading to an island vacation with endless drinks (please drink responsibly, though. Alcohol poisoning is no joke). For others, this may mean going home and spending time with family. For the rest of us, spring break is just a week that we don't have school. Luckily I've created a list of things to do that can help keep your boredom at bay.

1. Take some time to decompress

This could be a number of different things. Choose a non-stressful activity that you enjoy doing; this could be sitting down to watch a movie you've been meaning to see, do some reading or even some fun workouts. It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you end the day feeling stress-free.

2. Get a headstart on some school work

I know you're thinking, "Homegirl, that is without a doubt the last thing I'm trying to do on spring break." I feel you on that, I truly do. However, if you just spend one day of your week, even a few hours, you will definitely reap the benefits later on.

3. TREAT. YO. SELF.

If your friends are off having a blast on their vacations, why can't you do something for yourself? Take yourself shopping or go get a pedicure. You don't even have to do something that costs money; you can make yourself a nice meal or have a long relaxing bubble bath.

4. Try something new

Personally, over spring break, I'm going to be trying a new recipe or two that I haven't been able to try yet. So go ahead and start that new TV show. You have all week to finish it.

5. Clean your dorm/apartment

TRUST ME. You will thank yourself for this later. I get it, midterms were wild - things got backed up and now you have 4 loads of laundry to do. Spend a day doing some deep cleaning; I can guarantee that you will feel so much better when you're done.

6. Explore

Fortunately, my school is located in Charleston, South Carolina, home of the oldest historic district in America, so I have no shortage of things to explore. I will be taking daily walks to the battery exploring South Of Broad Street. If your school is not a destination area, I suggest looking for new walking trails or trying out a new restaurant.

7. Get that $$$

With my schedule cleared, I'm able to get a few more shifts in a work. This can definitely help with boredom and will surely help your bank account.

8. If all else fails, live vicariously through social media

To quote my queen, Chrissy Teigen "I have zero desire to go to a Halloween party tonight but I'm still being a jealous hater b*tch looking at my Instagram feed." In this case, the Halloween party is a trip to New York and the jealous hater b*tch is you.

Hopefully, you are able to draw some inspiration from my ideas and will make your #SpringBreak2k17 a wonderful staycation of sorts.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
