Beliefs, habits, or superstitions?

Growing up in a Hispanic atmosphere, you might have encountered several traditions that have been passed down from your ancestors to your generation. Some of these beliefs might seem almost impossible to believe, but you still manage to follow some of them as a part of your instincts. Here are eight habits that will determine if you are a superstitious person:

1. Black cat, bad luck

You get the chills when you see a black cat walking down the street. All your life you have thought that black cats symbolize bad luck because they are related to witchcraft, Halloween, and other subjects of the scary world.

2. Under the ladder

You more than likely have avoided walking under a ladder more than three times in your lifetime. The story tells that people who walk under them are likely to face their own death by being hung, from a ladder!

3. Broken mirror

If you accidentally break a mirror, your senses will tell you that your life is in danger. It is believed that breaking a mirror symbolizes breaking your reflection -- breaking your future. Seven years of bad luck will haunt you.

4. Purse on the floor, money out the door

If you are a lady who likes to wear purses as an accessory, you probably always try to place them on a chair or a table when you go out to places because you know what putting them on the floor means. If the tip of your purse touches the floor, you will most likely be broke for eternity.

5. No marriage

Some people might do this one in purpose, but if you don’t want to end up single for all your life, then you'd better not sit in the corner of a table. This is believed to keep you away from marriage. Well, how bad can that be?

6. Can you pass me the salt?

Yep. You are programmed not to pass the salt from hand to hand. People believe that passing the salt from body to body might also pass down sorrows and problems. If you already have enough with your troubles, then you sure don’t want to deal with someone else’s.

7. "La limpia"

Your Grandma has tried several of her “limpia” tricks on you because she saw the negative forces acting upon you. She did all sorts of stuff on your body, which required an egg and a plant to cleanse off all your bad vibes. Thanks, Grandma!

8. New year, new me

Your Tia is always prepared at every New Year's party. Lately, she has gotten you into this whole “thongs and colors” thing. The belief claims that whichever color of underwear you wear on the last day of the year will equal the lifestyle you’ll have the next 365 days. Some use red for love, others yellow for money, and hopefully no one uses black.

If you related to at least one of these then you, my friend, are superstitious. Whether it’s a sense of tradition or a legitimate belief, superstitions are always fun to follow -- as long as you don’t take your worries to another level.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
