8 Things That Make Palmerton, PA Special

I will forever be proud to call this place my hometown.

8 Things That Make Palmerton, PA Special

I'm lucky to call this little town within the mountains my home.

1. Prom in the Park

We have such a beautiful park, so why not put it to good use. Not many towns have this tradition. For that reason, prom in the park is special. It is a way for people to get a chance to see their loved ones and friends before they are off to the seniors last big "hoorah" before they graduate.

2. The Gazebo

One of Palmerton's staples is the gazebo. It is within the center of our park. Events such as prom in the park, concert bands in the summer, and events at the Palmerton Festival take place within this gazebo. It's also a great place to take pictures before dances and other events.

3. Fireworks at Football Games

Obviously this picture doesn't include the fireworks. Every time the Palmerton football team would score a touchdown, fireworks would be set off by owners of the houses across the street from the field. It was something that I defintley looked forward to when going to games when I was younger and even as my last year as a Palmerton Blue Bomber.

4. In a time of crisis we come together as a town

Throughout the past few years tragedy has struck our small town in many ways. In the time of need, everyone has an open heart and is there to support others. Hosting candle-light ceremonies, making donations to families in need, and continuing to support others.

5. Delaware Avenue

Delaware Ave is the main street within Palmerton that you can literally find anything on. If you're hungry this street is loaded with a lot of local business. If you need to find a gym for your New Years resolution we have those too. Grocery store, lawyer offices, and much more are located here.

6. Palmerton Pool

The Palmerton Memorial Park Association attracts people from all over. In the winter when the water is drained, it is moved to the properties softball field and used as an ice rink.

7. The New Jersey Zinc Plant

Although our mountains still suffer a little bit from the pollution, it helped people pick our mascot as the Palmerton Blue Bomber. The zinc company was opened in the 1900's and was used to manufacture goods for WWII.

7. The Yellow Mule

"Patches" represents landmarks within. Patches represents a Pennsylvania Deutsch Quilt. Located right outside the police station, it is a staple for sure of our town.

8. Palmerton Area High School

Home of the Blue Bombers. Although I couldn't wait to leave, I have come to miss the days of saying hi to my teachers and friends that I would see everyday. Having lunch everyday for four years with the same 6 or 7 girls. Bomber Pride is in a new uprising under the new administration at PHS. Luckily, I was able to experience it for two years. I hope with the newest additions coming to PHS it will only brighten the future. Forever proud to be a Blue Bomber.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
