8 Things That Happen When you Have a Big Family

Every time I go home to visit my family back home I laugh at all the things that seem so normal to me that would not make sense to anyone who doesn't have a big family. From family gatherings for almost anything to not being able to go out to eat together anywhere. Having a big and close family is something that only makes sense to those in a big family and those who wouldn't trade their family for anything.

1. You can work around distractions

screaming, talking, loud music...yeah none of that stuff seems to bother you when you have a big family. If you can handle your mom and aunts gossiping while your little cousins are running around and your dad and uncles are blasting the t.v noise just isn't a problem.

2. Getting together is an event on its own

A simple gathering turns into a giant event when you have a big family. Even something as simple as a family dinner can turn into a three-hour activity just because you have to rotate shifts to make sure everyone eats.

3. You have to warn people before they meet your family

Whether it be your friends or a potential significant other you always have to prep people before they meet your family because sometimes they can be a lot to handle...even for you.

4. Going out to eat together isn't a thing

As much as you and your family would enjoy a dinner out at a restaurant it is just impossible with the amount of family members you have.

5. You learn to be patient

Patience is key when you have a big family. When you grow up having to wait your turn for almost everything, you become pretty comfortable with waiting for your turn to finally come up.

6. Birthday parties are usually just your family

You tend to stick to just inviting your family to your birthday party mainly because just your family alone is a party.

7. You get used to hand-me-downs

When you have a big family you don't have to worry about a new wardrobe because you're constantly updating your wardrobe every time one of your cousins decides to throw out their old clothes.

8. You always have a place to go

When you have a big family you have options. You could go hang out at home or you could go check in at one of your aunts' house to see what they made for dinner.

Having a big family is both a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. There is always a shoulder to cry on and a person to share a laugh with when you have a big family. Thank you to my family for being the loud, fun, and amazing family that I wouldn't trade for the world.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
