Summer is a great time to try new things and explore new hobbies. Below is a list of things that you can do during the summer that are better than watching Netflix.
1. Play tennis
Tennis is great because it is relatively cheap and only requires two people. Tennis is a fun way to get exercise and spend time outside. Grab a cheap racket and a few packs of balls and head out to a public court on the next sunny day.
2. Find a cheap happy hour
Happy hour deals are not limited to alcohol. Most happy hours include great deals on appetizers and small plates. Do a little research and find a great outdoor happy hour for an early dinner.
3. Explore a neighborhood you haven't seen before
You don't have to have a plan. Drive around and find an area where you haven't spent much time before. Discover new coffee spots, shop local and enjoy an afternoon exploring.
4. Cook a summer meal
Do a quick search on Pinterest and find a few light summer recipes to try out. Practice cooking at home when your parents are buying all of the ingredients!
5. Try a new gym
Most gyms offer a free week of unlimited access. Try different fitness classes, whether it be cycling, yoga, or a lifting class. Working out outside is also a great option in the summer.
6. Join a recreational sports league
There are plenty of adult sports leagues that run throughout the summer. Do some research and join a volleyball, tennis, soccer, or softball team to keep you busy. Leagues range in competitiveness and seriousness. Put together a team of coworkers or high school friends.
7. Connect with old friends
Reach out to old friends who still live by you that you have lost contact with. Set up a lunch or a coffee date.
8. Read a book
Summer is a great time to read books that you actually want to read. During school you are bogged down with homework and papers, and reading for fun is usually not a top priority. A great resource for summer reading is your local library. Public libraries have a wide selection of books from classics to modern reads. Let's face it - college students don't have the budget to be buying new books from a store!
