8 Things That All Private School Kids Can Relate To

Yes, we know. You think our uniforms look dumb.

From the uniforms to the cliques, private school is a whole new world. Whether you've been in private school for a week or half your life, you will understand these eight things.

1. Everyone knows everyone

In a public school, you can be meeting someone for the first time at graduation. In a private school, you could OFFICIATE the graduation ceremony. You know all of the kids in your grade and the grades surrounding yours, even if you have never talked to them.

2. The stereotypes

People assume that because you go to a private school, you must be a "rich kid." Nope, our parents just spend all of their money on our education--thanks guys!

3. Uniforms

Everyone matches. No, it isn't exactly like Gossip Girl. It's pretty close though. A specific colored polo, appropriate length khaki shorts, and a school approved jacket. They're uncomfortable, but apparently they are necessary for concentration and modesty purposes.

However, they can be convenient at times. I have never taken more than a minute to pick out my outfit for the day, which is a huge time saver. See, they aren't always bad!

4. No privacy... at all

Going through a break-up? Is it your birthday? Have a slight cough? Everyone and their neighbor knows about it. Word travels extremely fast when there are 200 kids who all feel comfortable sharing stories with each other.

5. Not having to specify last names

There's no need to clarify with last names, a first name will suffice. After all, it's so rare that there is a repeated name. Everyone is used to being the only _____ in the whole school.

6. Having to participate in everything

In most public schools, you're lucky if you are able to participate in more than one club or sport. In private schools where the number of students is low, the clubs and sports teams need as much help as they can get.

The people in choir and band all play sports. The athletes tutor kids in their free time. The class president is also an NHS officer. There are no boundaries for how much you can be involved.

7. Being extremely close with your teachers

The students aren't the only ones doubling up on responsibilities. Many teachers in private schools teach multiple classes throughout different grades and subjects. With that being said, it's likely that you see most of your teachers more than once a day.

After x amount of years being at the school, your teachers become your family. You ask about their lives and families, and they give you life advice and extra help with schoolwork. Remember in elementary school you would accidentally call your teacher 'mom' and then be embarrassed? It's not on accident anymore. It's just how things are!

8. Feeling like the school is your home

You know what I mean if you've ever been at a school for the majority of your life. You know the campus like the palm of your hand. That lunch table in the corner is your lunch table.

The bathroom upstairs feels like your bathroom at home. You've had countless Friday nights on that makeshift football field. This was where you grew up. How could it not feel like home?

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
