8 Things I Never Thanked My Big Sister For

1. Thank you for always being there for me. From the scraped knees and the first day of kindergarten, to the heart breaks and the first day of college, you were always right there by my side with your wise words of wisdom.

2. Thank you for letting me be just like you, until I found a way to be myself. Growing up, you were the coolest person in my life. I wanted to dress like you, act like you, and hang out with you ALL the time. I know it must’ve been very annoying to have little me following you around every second and copying your every move, but thank you for letting it happen. Because I learned about life from you, I learned to be caring, sensitive, and kind-hearted.

3. Thank you for testing out the waters with mom and dad. You went through everything first. You got your license before me, so by the time they got to me, the screaming that occurred every time the car went above 15 mph had settled down. You had a boyfriend before me, so when I got my first boyfriend, there weren’t as many emotions involved and they weren’t so strict. You had a curfew before me, you went to college before me, you went through EVERYTHING before me. After all, you always say I have it easier than you had it. So, thanks for that.

4. Thank you for never judging me. I know I can tell you absolutely anything and you would never think differently about me.

5. Thank you for choosing the best college in the world. You chose to go to The Ohio State University, and when I came to visit you, I fell in love with the school.

6. Thank you for always being a phone call away. Whether we’re 10 feet, 10 miles, or 10 hours apart, I know I can always call you whenever I need you.

7. Thank you for being my partner in crime and my best friend. You were my only friend on family vacations, or when we would be home as kids. We used our imaginations and played the best games. You made my childhood amazing.

8. Thank you for being my role model. You were always there to show me the ropes and you continue to be there. You are the best role model I ever could have asked for and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
