Especially when you are an incoming freshman, you could miss some items that could make your dorm room memorable, comfortable and stylish. Your dorm should be your home away from home, with your own creative style while keeping some of the comforts of living at home. There will always be things you don't think about getting until after you have moved it but, here are some ideas to help make your dorm room your favorite spot on campus!

1. Get a comforter and duvet that expresses your style.

Your bed will be the center piece of your space in the dorm, have it show your style! While fun patters and colors are great, also make sure it is comfy, easy to wash and fits your bed. Dorm can be difficult to find bedding because of the different sizes of mattresses, make sure you get the right size for your mattress. It's your first time having full reign on interior decoration, why go neutral (unless thats your style, you go girl!) when you can pick a comforter that expresses your aesthetic and is comfortable!

2. Win best smelling dorm.

Most dorms don't allow candles or wax melters so, essential oil diffusers are the best alternative! They allow your dorm to have therapeutic light scents fill the air, without breaking any rules with heat hazards. They allow you to personalize the scents every time and to switch it up! It's not heavy or headache inducing, they are used in spas for a reason! I have gotten so much use out of my diffuser and it's always a conversation piece when someone asks how I got my room smelling so good!

3. Pad up that brick of a bed.

Mattresses in dorms are notoriously uncomfortable. Make sure to get yourself a mattress pad to make your bed more comfy. It will make that precious time you have to sleep infinitely better than trying to lay on your hard dorm mattress.

4. On the subject of mattresses...

No matter how clean your dorm may look, there's always stuff you can't see until you're itching in the middle of the night. Having a mattress cover can help prevent bed bugs and mites. I have had friends that have had the horrible experience of having all their stuff get filled with bed bugs that came from the dorm. Just to be safe grab one of these!

5. Extension cords galore.

You can never have enough plugs when it comes to all your devices and extra electronics. They may even come into handy in the library when everyone is hovered around the plugs, you can just slip in an extension cord and have enough distance to have some privacy. They will always come in handy, especially universal plugs. For how low priced they are, it makes sense to add more space for your electronics.

6. Light up your dorm.

Don't knock the stereotypical twinkle light covered dorm room! They add perfect illumination when the harsh florescent lights in your room get to be too much. Twinkle lights can add some extra flare to a dark dorm room.

7. Show your shower some love.

If you are able to remove the shower head that is currently in your shower, splurge on a new detachable shower head. Especially if you have difficult hair and need a little extra help, this will do wonders to make your showers in a new place more comfortable. Sore muscles stand no chance to a detachable shower head. They aren't even that expensive online so plan ahead and try switching out your shower head!

8. Somethings from home.

Having keepsakes from home will help you transition into your new space. Having photos of family and friends will help you, as well as a blanket or stuffed animals. You can't expect yourself to be a pro at moving away, take care of yourself and be mindful of what a big deal moving away and starting college is. It never hurts to always have a little piece of where you came from with you.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
