Every town has its own quirks, and Madison is no exception. This little 200-year-old river town in Jefferson County, Indiana is well known for its festivals and history. Here are some of the things a Madisonian will swear to.
1. The Madison Regatta
The Madison Regatta is a famous boat race on the Ohio River taking place the first weekend of July. If boat racing isn't your thing, you still go for the Regatta parade, tons of good food, and fireworks.
2. The movie "Madison"
Everyone from Madison has watched this 2005 movie that is about-who would have guessed-Regatta. It shows off our historic downtown area and tells the 1971 story about the best race boat: Miss Madison.
3. The Cub vs. Rebel rivalry
Turkey Shootout (the Madison vs. Southwestern basketball game) is an event attended by people of all ages. We know where our loyalties lie when it comes to high school pride.
4. Horst's chocolate chip donuts
There's just not too much to say about the best donut known to the history of mankind.
5. The Broadway Fountain
Wedding and photo shoot hotspot. Wishes always come true if you get your coin in the top tier.
6. The Madison-Milton bridge
Since the Madison-Milton bridge opened in 2014, walking to Kentucky has been a legitimate form of entertainment. Now we don't have to drive to get Kentucky Dairy Queen!
7. Downtown is closed to cars 99 percent of the time.
Whether it be Regatta, Ribberfest, Old Court Days, or Soup, Stew, Chili, and Brew; the festivities downtown usually leave the roads blocked off.
8. Hinkle's Burgers and Milkshakes
Serving burgers until midnight since 1933.
