Recently, after my trip to the West during Thanksgiving Break, I have been suffering from a syndrome caused by a sudden change of time zones—jet-lag. Although my time spent on the opposite side of the world was filled with fun and excitement, coming back was a pain in the butt. With the break being just one week, I was forced to attend school the day after I arrived. Waking up during the night at around 1 am didn't help me during my school day at all, and I ended up sleeping at the nurses office during one class. Anyone who relates to what I've been through has had a serious case of jet-lag.
Productivity during the wrong hours
Right after I got back from school, I spent the next few hours sleeping away. Waking up at around 12-1am, I would grab a quick bite for breakfast and work on schoolwork until 6 am, which was the time I needed to start getting ready for school.
Hearing everyone's opinion on jet-lag and leaning to abide it
I was surprised when some of my friends turned out to be sudden experts of the cures for jet-lag. I know they mean no harm but when my friends informed me again of the tiring aftereffects in staying awake from jet-lag I thought, "It's easy for you to say."
Being overly-concerned about things that don't really matter
I got back into my room and took a look at my laptop, phone, and clock that were all indicating different times. My phone was showing the West's time zone, the laptop was showing America's time, and my clock was broken. On top of that, my body clock was not helping either.
Canceling plans
I had to cancel about three lessons because I was zoned out during the time my lessons were supposed to be.
Yawning
All throughout the week, I suffered a cold sore on my lips, puffy eyes, two nose bleeds, and dark circles from lack of sleep. I felt like a lost, shriveling raisin. It looked like I was ready for next year's Halloween.
It's been about a week since I came back home so hopefully the jet-lag will wear off soon. For sure, the best parts of my week were the times I crashed into my bed and slept. The fact that I might go back again during the Christmas break is both exciting and scary.
