Since declaring myself as a Communication major at the beginning of last year I have received endless questions and comments about what exactly a Communication major is or does. It can get overwhelming and frustrating to constantly be answering questions about your major and future career, so if you know a Communication major, you might not want to ask them these eight questions.

1. "What do Communication majors even do in class?"

People always act like we are a mysterious major that no one can figure out. Really, we aren't much different from any other major. We still go to class and have homework just like everyone else.

2. "You're lucky you have an easy major?"

First, no matter what major you are, we are all working towards the same thing. No major is "easy." I'm not saying communication is the hardest major out there, but it definitely is not an easy major. We are assigned tons of readings and papers each week, the amount of time we spend on homework is sometimes ridiculous.

3. "It must be nice to have so much free time."

This comment ties into the point about people assuming Communication majors have it easy. We don't have any more free time than anyone else.

4. "What can you even do with a Communication degree?"

This question would be understandable if it wasn't always asked in a disapproving tone. The way people ask make it seem like they are predicting that you won't have a career or successful future. Communication is actually a very versatile degree.

5. "You aren't going to make a lot of money."

Hearing this from everyone you know can be discouraging. We all know this fact, but we have chosen this major for a reason because we enjoy it. And to us, being happy and interested in your classes and work is more important than a huge paycheck. Besides, there are plenty of job opportunities for Communication majors that actually do pay well.

6. "Are you learning how to talk to people?"

No. We aren't. We are learning about how people communicate, but it goes much more in depth than just "how to talk to people."

7. "I wish I was a Communication major so my life would be easier."

Be careful what you wish for because your life probably wouldn't be any easier. You have to enjoy reading hundreds of pages a day and writing at least two or three essays each week. In my opinion, that's not easy.

8. "So, what are you planning on doing with your life?"

This question is probably the worst. One of the amazing things about being a Communication major is the fact that there are so many possible things to do with your degree. You don't have to know exactly what you are going to do because there are a lot of career options and you can pick based on what you find most interesting.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
