There may be snow outside and Christmas music playing down the hallways, but don’t be fooled. There are many more factors that make the Christmas season at college its own unique experience.
1. You have a countdown not until December 25th, but until the first day of break.
Priorities, people.
2. All your dorm decorations are the ones that your mom didn’t put up…
You know, the ones that were so embarrassing you begged her to get rid of, but now realize are the only hope for your room to look festive.
3. You start the Christmas music way early to try to convince yourself that the semester is almost over.
It’s done in secret of course. You never know who is on your side.
4. Your Christmas list consists of items that no normal, fun-loving 20-something person should ask for.
“Mom, I just want two-ply toilet paper! Please, no more of this generic garbage!!”
5. The amount of Secret Santa gift exchanges which you’re a part of is unreal.
Say goodbye to your spending money, friends. It’s now going towards fuzzy socks and miniature bottles of lotion.
6. You’re no longer embarrassed to ask for your wrapping paper or gift bag back.
We’ve all been there. No shame.
7. Your life is a constant battle between excitement for Christmas break to come and the terrifying realization of all you have to accomplish before then.
Be sure to avoid the aforementioned countdown when you’re experiencing the latter.
8. Your only comfort is that you won’t have any homework over break.
End of the semester means the end of classes, right? Of course, there’s always that one professor…
Whether you do end up with some work over break or you crash on the couch in a state of oblivion for the first three days, remember to take some time to enjoy the comforts of home and appreciate all the blessings you’ve received throughout the year. And don’t forget the real Reason for the season!
