Frederick Maryland is awesome for so many reasons, but my favorite part is everything there is to do during the crisp-air, colorful-tree-filled months. These events and places are a few examples of all the great ways to celebrate the fall season in or around the Frederick area!

1. Baker Park

Baker park is a great place to visit all year long, but Baker park in the fall is an absolute must! You can walk along Carroll Creek, have a fall-festive picnic, or simply breath in the crisp fall air, and Downtown Frederick is right there if you need a change of scenery.

2. Gambrill State Park

If you like hiking, this is the perfect place to go. Hiking in the fall has to be the best time of year to do it, surrounded by colors of oranges, reds, and yellows, its too beautiful to pass up, and we Frednecks or Fredericktonians (whatever your preference is) are lucky enough to be right near a ton of cool hiking spots, like Gambrill State Park.

3. Halloween in Downtown Frederick

You have to love downtown Frederick, especially all the cool Halloween/ fall festivities. On Saturday October 29th from 10 am-12 pm there is trick-or-treating downtown, the perfect family event to get you pumped for Halloween.

4. Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch

Located in Middletown Maryland, a short drive if you live in Frederick, this is a great place to get some pumpkins to decorate your doorstep, there is a petting zoo, a corn maze to get lost in, and a barn full of seasonal crafts and things to shop for. Not to mention the scenery is breathtaking.

5. Halloween-Themed Movie Nights on Carroll Creek

Frederick has so many cool events to celebrate the fall season, like outdoor movies near the creek with family-friendly Halloween flicks. There is no better way to get into the Halloween spirit while also finding an excuse to go downtown.

6. Screamland Farms

If you are someone who likes a good scare, you should check this place out. It’s just like field of screams….. but its right here in good old Frederick. It’s located on Crumland Farms, (another awesome place to go pumpkin hunting!) and trust me, you will scream.

7. Ghost Tours of Historic Frederick

Anyone who has been to Frederick knows that downtown has some pretty old buildings… each with their own histories and alleged ghost stories. Ghost tours of historic Frederick are available year round, but they are also a really cool way to get into the Halloween spirit. There are also special tours on Halloween night of the National Civil War and Medicine museum which is known for its ghost stories.

8. Catoctin Mountain Orchard

If apple picking is on your fall bucket list for this year, Catoctin Mountain Orchard is an awesome place to check it off your list. Located in Thurmont Maryland, Catoctin Mountain Orchard has a beautiful view of the mountains for you to admire while you pick yourself some apples, shop for pumpkins, or buy some pies and other treats in their shop.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
