It always feels like a little adventure when can speak two/three, or multiple languages. Being bilingual does have its setbacks, but also has an abundance of perks.
1. You are unique.
A study with Gallup mentions how about one in every four Americans is able to hold a conversation in a second language. That makes about 26% of adult Americans that are able to speak a language other than English. Keep on making the rest of us proud.
2. Your chances at getting a job increase.
Take my word on this! People who speak two or more languages have a higher chance of getting a job than those who don't. Usually, owners of stores always want someone who has more skills and knowing a language is one of them. Fluency in another language means that employers can send you abroad or use you to communicate with clients that they might not be able to. You are automatically more versatile, so work it.
3. Say something in *Insert Language Here*
The first thing you always hear when someone finds out you speak another language. It is always awkward, especially when you are trying to come up with something to say on the spot. You usaually just go "Hi, My name is ....."
4. Meeting someone who speaks the same language and you can already picture the both of you as best friends.
If you hear someone speaking your language you get this urge to jump into the conversation and want to become their best friend. Even when you have nothing else in common, it still excites you to find someone who shares this special bond, that sometimes you just go with the flow without a single care.
5. Sometimes you forget the English word for something.
I am not kidding when I say this happens to me on a daily basis. This usually happens to you in the middle of a sentence. Your brain just hesitates and forgets the English word you wanted to say. The dilemma arises when the people around you don't speak your other language, and you stuck for a couple of minutes.
6. Knowing when someone is talking about you.
This works especially well when you don't seem to be the type to speak the language. It's always fun being the one who gets the actual last laugh.
7. Understanding inside jokes.
Humor is one thing that usually can't be translated, and when it is it seems lame or just not right. As an Egyptian, this is a vital part of our culture is being able to make those inside jokes about everything. This for sure leaves you with a more expanded sense of humor.
8. You get double the entertainment.
What's better than having unlimited options for music, movies, and tv shows? It is being able to have one/two more varieties to choose from. There are more genres that come with the languages as well. You could be feeling an English movie for now, and jamming to some music in another language in the car.
