Beauty comes in all different forms. Whether we are skinny, curvy, tall, short, girly or a tomboy we all have unique qualities that make us inherently gorgeous. However, while these qualities make us stunningly diversified, they can come with their difficulties as well. One quality that I and many other individuals have that can be a bit of a bother is thin hair. While I hope that most of us with this type of hair have learned to embrace it, it does not eliminate the complications that it can spawn. In order to emphasize this fact, here are eight difficulties that portray how thin hair can be a real pain.
1. Bits of scalp show through while creating ponytails.
Making the perfect ponytail is tough enough as it is, but attempting to make it while checking for bald areas is just irritating. The second a thin-haired woman spots a questionable area and tries to fix it, it ends up creating a whole other problem. I don't know about other thin-haired women, but sometimes I just give up and wear a hat.
2. Ponytails are always tiny.
Even though there are days where we can put our hair up in ponytails scalp-free, we can't escape the reality of how small our ponytails normally end up looking. In fact, I have a friend who once told me that my, "ponytail is so cute and little. It's like a little girl's." Good to hear.
3. Dramatic hair changes are terrifying.
Thinking about chopping your hair short, getting bangs or dying your hair a hundred different colors? As far as I'm aware, most thin-haired women are not. If you have thin hair and are unafraid to alter it, more power to you. But from what I have seen, most of us struggle to work with the hair we already have and believe it isn't worth the risk to make it even worse.
4. Complicated hairdos are impossible to pull off.
You know those absolutely gorgeous updos you see on Pinterest with the crisscrossing braids and the curls snatched back by bobby pins? Well, unless there is an amazing stylist at hand, us thin-haired women should probably leave those styles to the thick-haired. Because of our lack of hair, it is so difficult for us to make such ornate designs work.
5. Hair becomes greasy very fast.
Ugh, isn't this the worst? And if you are a workout-aholic, like myself, this plagues you even more. With less hair on our heads, sweat accumulates much quicker on us than on those who are thick-haired. This leads most of us to shower every day and, even though we know it isn't good for us, we can't help it. No one likes feeling constantly grungy.
6. Bobby pins are unreliable.
Snatching your hair back without using a ponytail is incredibly challenging for those of us with finer hair. We struggle to insert bobby pins because there is little body to help it stay in place. Even when we are able to make it work, it tends to fall out at some point (unless you use gobs of hairspray).
7. Hair flips are less than impressive.
OK, this is certainly not an issue that calls for a great amount of concern, but can you really tell me that no girl has ever fantasized about nailing the perfect, flirtatious hair flip? Take Selena Gomez's hair flip in her most recent Pantene commercial. The flip not only works because of her grace, but because of the abundant amount of hair on her head. Could you imagine someone with thin hair flip it with that much impact? I don't think so.
8. Baldness is a very real fear.
This may sound irrational, but it is a completely legitimate fear. While male baldness is far more common, women do experience it as well. Not only that, but becoming bald is a more socially acceptable occurrence for men than women. For women, hair is highly important to us in terms of appearance and potentially losing it is somewhat daunting.
So, as you can tell, thin hair can be utterly grating. If you have thin hair, leave a message in the comment section below about which of these difficulties you are plagued with the most or a difficulty that was not mentioned on this list!
