If someone had asked me about college a decade ago or even a few years ago, I would have been really excited about it. College seemed so grown up and everyone looked like they had it all figured out. Little did I know what I was walking into. For all those people out there who haven't been to college yet, trust me, these struggles are way too real.
1. Being broke
College means being broke practically every day. Student loans are hard as it is, without including expensive food and other necessities. Not having a job or even having one which pays the minimum doesn't help much either.
2. Overpriced textbooks
Well, here's the reason why we're broke all the time. An average student spends around $1200 a year just on books and supplies. An average textbook costs around $200. No wonder every college student is stressed out at the beginning of each semester.
3. Not being able to afford actual food
One of the best ways to get college students to attend an event would be providing free food. When you're living off of ramen noodles and frozen pizza, anything else seems like a luxury.
4. Pulling all-nighters
Slacking off the entire semester and pulling an all-nighter right before the exam? Been there, done that! Like they say, sleep is for the weak anyway.
5. Waking up early
Having to get to work super early in the morning, or worse, taking that 7 a.m. class, didn't look so bad until you actually had to do it. For someone who's not a morning person, that's self-imposed torture.
6. Caffeine, caffeine, and more caffeine
I've personally never been a fan of coffee until I got to college. The answer to pretty much everything in college is coffee. Pulling an all-nighter or haven't got enough sleep? Got an early morning class? Thank god for coffee.
7. Have a social life or study?
College means a lot of parties where you can socialize and have fun. However, college also means a 10-page essay due tomorrow. It can only be either of the two and you've never been that confused in your life.
8. Adult responsibilities
Your late teens and early 20s are when you're technically an adult, but your parents don't treat you like one, and you have adult responsibilities, but you're definitely not ready for them. Things like paying the bills and getting doctor's appointments were better off in your mom's hands.
College, in a nutshell
All in all, these four years of college can be an absolute struggle for almost everyone out there. You can have the worst times in your life and find the best friends during these four years. However, when you finally put on your graduation gown and walk up that isle, you'll realize that even though you still haven't gotten it all figured out, these four years of your life have made you a better person and all the struggles were definitely worth it.
