This article took me over an hour to write simply because I believed that it was important to truly test each of these options to make sure that they were, in fact, the best ways to procrastinate.
The answer is yes, yes they were.
1. Social media.
This is literally the best way to kill time instead of doing what you are actually supposed to do. Not only do we have the solid go to options like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, but we also have Tumblr, Reddit, Imgur, Pinterest, Wordpress and yes, even Neopets to distract ourselves with.
2. Food.
I cannot think of a better time to try and make that really obscure recipe I saw one time on the internet, can you? And there's some free time still before I have to do that really important thing. Now, let me just Google exactly what the recipe says.
3. Cleaning.
I just can't concentrate with this mess. I'll organize now so I'm not thinking about it the whole time.
4. Netflix (or television, in general).
All these "Parks and Recreation" episodes are 30-minutes. I can spare a half an hour for just one episode.
5. Exercise.
I'm so motivated, if I don't do it now I'll talk myself out of it later.
6. Socializing.
Ooooh my mom is calling/I haven't texted so and so in forever/I wonder what he/she is doing today.
Let me just text them really quickly and find out.
7. Coloring.
God, these adult coloring books are just the best. Look, I made Hagrid purple!
And finally,
8. Reading.
Everyone is just going on and on about this new book, I have to know what's so good about it.
Most of us have a system that goes with how we procrastinate. I, for example, tend to follow options one through five religiously when it comes to putting off something necessary. Numbers six through eight are only employed when it becomes desperate.
Either way, procrastination is something that most of us participate in daily, whether it's taking an extra 15-minutes to get out of bed or taking two-hours to type an article about it.
