Finals are almost here!
You all know the feeling... so much studying to do for those five exams you have coming up! Like me, you're probably wondering when you're going to finish it all and you wish it could be summer already. There has got to be some kind of solution to this problem, right? Instead of working on that list of 12 million things to do, how about a step-by-step of the emotional rollercoaster that finals brings? Even better, what if it's explained by animated films? Ahh... Brilliant!
Step One: Invincibility.
That feeling where you make a mental list of everything you have to do. You calculate your time down the smallest second and measure out your time for everything you have to do. You've got it all under control! No need to worry.... Right? RIGHT??
Step Two: Denial.
Goodness, there is no way you you can finish all of this. Who were you kidding? In reality, might as well just forget it. It's not that big of a deal, right? Nothing much will happen if you don't graduation... except tons of debt and no way to pay it all.
Step Three: Neurological Insomnia.
So now you're trying to actually get things done. You start writing your essay but... your brain isn't cooperating. "Too exhausted to think" is your current status.
Step Four: Distractions. Everywhere.
After trying everything from drinking 8 cups of water to going for a jog, you are finally awake... No more Brain Van Winkle for you! But your friends are asking you to go for a food run and you have 13 new notifications on the Facebook. Ahhhhhh!! WHAT TO DO?
Step Five: Gastonification.
Words. Words. Words. So many words to know by tomorrow. And you have to write an impromptu essay on them?? Who's got the energy?
Step Six: Approval of doomed future.
At this point, you've come to the conclusion that no matter how much you try and try, you won't succeed; you've talked yourself into this downward spiral of negativity. "I'll end up working in McDonald's..." We've all thought it.Step Seven: Reality AKA Feeling of Imprisonment
A student's work is never done. One hurdle means I'm done right? Wrong. You have three more tests to go... hang in there!
Step Eight: What? It's done?
The absolutely beautiful realization that you are done for the year is worth every late night, every tear shed, and every overcome hurdle. And honestly, you wouldn't change that feeling or your experiences during the school year for the world. Although, yes, your grades don't define your value, doing your best and working your hardest will make it all worth it in the end. Good things come to those who work.
Now, go out and defeat those finals!
