8 Spring Break Ideas For Those Who Need To Relax

Spring break is probably the most famous week that every college student looks forward to in the semester. I know it is the one week that I look forward to the most at the start of the semester, besides the week after finals that is. I actually just got done with my spring break, and to tell you the truth I didn't do a much during the break. I'm not complaining at that at all, but I know that a lot of students do things over their spring break and like ideas of what to do. Some of the things you can do over break don't cost anything, and that is always a plus for a college students. Then there are some things that do cost money to do, but its spring break so why not splurge a little bit.

1. Catch Up On Sleep

Sleep is definitely something that gets put on the back burner when you're a college student. I mean look at me. I'm writing this article at 1 o'clock in the morning when I should probably be sleeping. So the first thing I did on my spring break was not set an alarm and woke up whenever my body decided to wake up. Let me tell you, it was one of the best feelings in the world. I have not had sleep like that in a long time, and now that I'm going back to school I'm going to miss it.

2. Catch Up On Your TV Shows

Besides sleeping during my break, which was a lot of the time, I spent a lot of my other free time catching up on the couple dozen TV shows that I watch. When you have nothing but free time on your hands, binge watching the latest episodes of your favorite TV shows is one of the best feelings you can have. You get to relax while doing it, and you get several hours in on the same show at one time, which if you've read my article about binge watching is the best feeling in the world for me.

3. Read Your Favorite Book

I'm a reader and I know that not a lot of people are, or at least reading isn't one of the first things that many people would turn to while on spring break but I did. I love the Harry Potter series, and I have read the entire series already but I decided to read it again, and I got a good start at that during my spring break. I love rereading my favorite series, but if you didn't have a favorite series you could always finish those couple of books you've started a while back and you would have a lot of time to do that on spring break.

4. Go Shopping

The previous three things didn't involve money, but this one is going to involve a little bit of money if you do end up buying anything. Now I love Target, and I know that a lot of people love Target, and I know that although many people love Target it is not necessarily a good friend to those people including me. I always go to Target with a list of things that I want to get, and I always end up either not getting anything on the list or a lot more than what is on the list. Yet, shopping can be a stress reliever for some people, and it's also a way to just get out of the house when you've been cooped up for so long.

5. Go To Lunch With Your Friends

This one I did not get to during my break even though there was talk about doing it, but that's okay. Going to lunch with your friends, or hanging out with your friends in general is a good way to pass the time during a break. It's a good way to catch up with them outside of the school setting, and it's normally always a good time, at least in my experience.

6. Take A Trip Someplace Warm

This is the common thing that a lot of college students do, especially if you're from Wisconsin like I am where your spring break is still during the winter time. This one will cost you a bit more money than anything mentioned above but generally I heard of great stories from other people that have gone away for spring break, especially those that go to Florida or anywhere down south in that area. The decision is yours, and you never know it could be a fun trip for you.

7. Try New Recipes

I'm a baker and trying new recipes is always something that I enjoy doing. I didn't get a chance to do this during spring break either, but if I had more time I know I probably would have done this. Even if the recipes don't turn out perfectly, you can at least say you tried something new and that is a success in itself.

8. Spend Time With Family

When you have a lot of free time you could always spend more time with your family because if you're anything like me I know you don't have a lot of time while having to go to classes and work during the semester. I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked to with my family over this break, but I did get to spend more time with them I would have if it weren't my spring break.

I know this isn't a really extensive list of things to over your spring break and to some it may be a list of boring things, but to me these things are relaxing. I know that they aren't the most exciting things you could be doing over break, but most of them don't cost money and that is a huge factor when I'm considering what to do with my time. I'm also going off of experience with this list, and if you couldn't guess by now, I'm a very chill, minimalistic person and these things a the perfect thing for a person like me. You never know, they might just be the perfect things for you as well, give them a try.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
