"SpongeBob SquarePants." It's the one show from our childhoods that they still consistently show on Nickelodeon. How do I know this? Because every time I go home that's what my younger brother is watching.
It's nostalgic to watch because we all know it and the best part is that some of the episodes are still funny in a "this is stupid" kind of way. We remember the show because it's always been around and it actually doesn't make sense in the case of modern science.
But here we are, a bunch of college kids still quoting that yellow sponge who lives in a pineapple. Here's eight quotes that are forever burned into our minds.
1. "I remember when they first invented chocolate. Sweet, sweet chocolate...I ALWAYS HATED IT!"
I still remember the kid I sat next to in high school chemistry and how he did this voice perfectly.
2. "I thought of something funnier than 24...25."
Why was this joke funny? Who knows? Why was any of this show funny? Does anybody know?
3. "Let me play a sad song for ya on the world's smallest violin."
Friend makes small complaint? Pull out the world's smallest violin. Works every time.
4. "Is mayonnaise an instrument?"
If the band episode wasn't already iconic, it also gave us one of the best questions of all time.
5. "Now put it on the lid...no the lid...THE LID."
Without fail, I hear "the lid" repeated anytime someone has to grab an actual lid.
6. "What does claustrophobic mean? It means he's afraid of Santa Claus."
Poor Squidward. He's really just like the rest of us.
7. "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma."
You can't forget about Patrick and his box. He provided college students with a quote they can use every time they want to sound deep and impress someone.
8. "You got it set to 'M' for 'Mini,' when it should be set to 'W' for 'Wumbo!'"
The scariest part of this quote it that I'm in college and it kind of makes sense.
