It’s easy to feel bored as you leave your hectic, college schedule behind and enter the world of summer. Get out of bed. Leave Netflix at home and stop devouring those bags of chips. Get outside. Embrace the warm sunlight. Explore new places. Make memories. Build on your relationships and most of all, take time to clear your mind and prepare yourself for a new beginning.
1. Go to the beach.
Sure, this might be a cliché, quintessential summer thing to do, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun. Break out your fluorescent, cute swimsuits. Spray that beach-wave, sea-salt spray. Bring snacks, games and your best friends and live the summer life.
2. Visit the library.
Pleasure reading is one of my favorite things to do. Delve into a new world and experience the adventures. This can be a lot of fun on a rainy day. Pick out a classic beachy, summery novel, snuggle up on a couch and make some white chocolate hot cocoa.
3. Visit a local museum.
Museums may seem absolutely boring, but with a group of friends, or even a date, it can be an absolutely fun experience. There are museums for every enthusiast: history, medicine and even, chocolate.
4. Go to a zoo.
Who doesn’t want to spend an entire day looking at baby animals?
5. Go to festivals and fairs.
Summer is the prime time for artsy festivals and fairs. Food, music and art festivals are my absolute favorite places to go during the summer. There are always people selling delicious food, showing off their unique music talent and selling beautiful hand-made jewelry and clothing.
6. Write.
Write about how you feel. Write about how you want to feel. Write about your goals, passions and bucket lists. Sit outside, embrace the sun and write your thoughts away.
7. Learn something new.
Develop a talent you never knew you had. Learn a new language. Learn how to play the ukulele. Learn a new dance routine. Starting something new and becoming proficient at it is the way we grow and become better versions of ourselves. Tackle that challenge.
8. Relax.
In the end, the ultimate goal of summer is to relax. Take a bubble bath. Spend time learning and discovering yourself. Visit that vintage clothing store you always admired. Re-watch your favorite movie. I know, I’m a big foodie, so I love exploring new, cute, little restaurants. Use this time to re-charge before getting back to the usual fast-paced schedule.
