8 Signs You're A Good Cook

Cooking and baking has been a past time of mine for years and I love it. My dad jokes that he married Betty Crocker's daughter and he has Betty Crocker's granddaughter.

1. If you go somewhere and bring food, it's gone before you leave.

This happens all the time when I go to a cookout or potluck. If I make something food wise or dessert wise it is almost always gone by the time I am getting ready to leave.

2. People look forward to your cooking.

I just took a speech class this summer and some of the students in my class were hoping that I would make cookies for one speech. I ended up making it my last speech, and everyone was looking forward to having my cookies. Some friends found out that I made cookies for class and were upset that there wasn't any left over for them to have any.

3. It's easy to gift someone food.

My aunt and uncle love some of the stuff I bake, so for birthdays and events I'll make something for them. When I was in high school I baked cookies for my friends for Christmas.

4. You love to cook.

There aren't many people if any that I know of that are really good cooks but hate to cook. Cooking and baking is something that I grew up with. I have been helping my mom since I was little.

5. You aren't afraid to try a new recipe.

Something look good in the new cookbook? I'm always willing to try something new. It might not turn out right the first time, but that's ok.

6. Some recipes don't have specific amounts of ingredients.

When I help my mom make spaghetti sauce, there is no certain recipe. The base is the same every time, but the spices are put in, mixed up and then the sauce is tasted. If it doesn't taste right you add some more spice. It's the same thing with the salsa. Just throw stuff together and taste it. If something seems off, just add more spice and get the balance you are looking for.

7. Your friends want you to cook for them.

There have been many times where I'm making dinner or hanging out with friends and I make food for them as well. Most of the time they will help, but they like me making the food because they know it will turn out good.

8. People will ask you to teach them how to cook.

I have helped many of my friends learn how to cook because they asked me. Sometimes cooking isn't always about reading and following the recipe. Some aspects just need to be taught.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
