8 Reasons You Should Get Spotify Premium

No, I don't work for Spotify. I just really like it.

8 Reasons You Should Get Spotify Premium
Spotify

I talk about Spotify all the time, and it truly is the best $5 I spend a month. For the amount I talk about it, you'd think I was paid by Spotify to promote their service (if anyone from Spotify is reading this, feel free to offer me a position), but I'm really just a big fan. Here are eight reasons you should try Spotify premium, which is $10/month, or $5/month for students.

1. Listen to anything you want.

With Spotify premium, you can listen to (almost) anything you want at any time. Most musicians have their music available on Spotify, and with a premium subscription you can listen to unlimited songs any time you want. So, unless you're a fan of Taylor Swift (who pulled her music from Spotify basically because she's selfish), you can listen to anything you want at any time!

2. It actually pays artists.

Spotify pays artists based on the amount their music is streamed. So, the more you listen to your favorite bands, the more they get paid. Right now, each stream of a song pays between $0.006 and $0.0084. That may not seem like a lot, but it adds up and ends up making artists more money in the long run.

3. Discover new music.

Using Spotify has led me to discover some of my favorite songs. Spotify has a great "browse" feature, which categorizes music by genre and moods, then further breaks it down into pre-made playlists for any mood or occasion. The "discover" feature recommends music specifically for you based on your listening habits. If I'm not sure what to listen to, there's always a playlist to fit my mood at the time.

4. Listen anywhere.

Spotify is perfect for road trips where you often lose cell phone data. With Spotify premium, you can take your playlists offline, which enables you to listen even at times with no service. This may not seem like a big deal, but when you're driving through the middle of nowhere, it's nice to have listening options. Before I go on a road trip, I make sure that I have plenty of music on my offline playlists so I don't get stuck listening to the same 15 songs on a CD.

5. You're not limited to just music.

With a premium subscription to Spotify, you also get access to many audiobooks! I'm the type of person that hates the quiet. I always like to have something playing in the background, so when I don't feel like listening to music, I'll play an audio book, or poetry, which is also offered on Spotify. Like I stated before, Spotify is great for road trips. If you're going for a long and tedious drive, download some audiobooks to an offline playlist to pass the time.

6. Get great playlists for running.

So, I'm not much of a runner, but I do love the Spotify run feature. Spotify run detects your tempo (or you can choose a tempo) and then creates a playlist with consistent beats per minute. I don't run, but I do love listening to these playlists while I'm doing my cardio on an elliptical at the gym. The constant stream of music with the same tempo really keeps your work out going, and pushes you to keep going. There are pre-made run playlists, or you can choose one tailored for you based on your music taste.

7. Have a better mind set.

You can find guided meditations to listen to on Spotify. Meditating can improve your life in many ways, and there's no better way to start than through a simple guided meditation. There's also audio information on self help topics, such as improving your self esteem or handling anxiety.

8. Learn a language.

Spotify also offers audio courses to learn languages. If you've ever wanted to take up a language in your free time, here's your chance.

If you're now thinking, "Wow, I really need Spotify premium," you can try three months for only $0.99 here for a limited time only.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
